Yeah, that seems to happen particularly (maybe exclusively?) with older threads/discussions that started before the changeover. It's really annoying.
There are a lot of forums with ancient posts stickied. Even charters. Be honest, does anyone read them? You could remove the sticky for charters if you had a pop up on the first post a user made in a forum that listed the charter and had them tick agree.
For example there are 6 stickies in After Hours. Far too many cluttering the place up. Boards themes shouldn't be stickied. One of the threads stickied has been there since 2013.
Something about breakfasts with no new post in 2 months.
A remembrance thread for a boardsie with no posts in 2 weeks.
Some competition thing from August.
Yeah, the boards theme one in AH was for pre-Vanilla. Doesn't even work anymore.
If you click the little settings wheel on the stickied thread and select dismiss it removes it for you.
If you are using uBlock Origin, disable cosmetic filtering for this site. The eyedrop picker to block that ad placement element on the frontpage results in that.
This has happened recently.
'In our rush to destigmatize the exception, we’ve stigmatized the rule.'
There is irony in the fact that this is the only one of my "followed threads" where there is any activity
Anyone that uses an AdBlock app on iPhone getting this issue when trying to open certain threads? Never happened until today
@Boards.ie: Niamh Would it be possible to get forums forums to add a sticky to the top each forum that lists the mods and cmods for that forum?
How do you even tell on thread who is a mod these days?
Was reading a thread and the below post
It really looks like a random poster issuing instructions. The User Panel on the left needs to show Mod status.
Sadly there is no way of checking and trust me (as a mod) that is every bit as annoying for us as it is for the general user base.
I can confirm however that Ten of Swords is indeed a mod.
Why is it so slow? It's now the slowest loading site on the Internet, you click a thread and sit there waiting for 10 seconds for a page to load especially if on mobile.
It really does take something special to provide 56k dial up speeds in the year 2021, I wouldn't have thought it was possible to make a text based site this slow tbh.
Is that speed issue universal? I'm normally on desktop and pages load pretty much instantly there. I tried it on mobile and pages are taking 2-3 seconds to load.
Mobile and Desktop both normal speed for me. No slow down here but I’ve seen a few people say it.
10 seconds+ for me on desktop and tablet.
if it is only slow for some it has to be a local or configuration issue.
count me too, at times 5, at times 10 with css or without, FF or Edge, two different PC's
the only thing different with mine is that I have a hosts file that redirects practically every ad site to 127.0.0.1
It is slow, but it varies from maybe a couple of seconds to ten or so.
No problems with any other website so it's definitely this site where the problem lies.
If not universal then it must be pretty near to it, Id say the speed is the #1 reason for the massive drop-off in users we've seen, Its hard work using this site now, I know my usage is down massively because of it, its just too much like work now, I spend 12 hour shifts wrestling with sh1tty 20 year old software I dont want to do it at home aswell.
I'm in England so might be different for visitors outside Ireland? Not sure how it all works. Might explain why I'm experiencing different to everyone else.
I'm in ireland so i don't think location is a factor
I have the same loading issues as I stated here before, I just done a check now. Hit the Boards.ie bookmark on pc and it took 16 seconds to load the site, hit the bookmarks on boards and it took 12 seconds to load bookmarks, hit the Liverpool bookmark and it took 29 seconds to load. It has been similar speeds since the "upgrade" so I just don't be on that much now. It is the only website I have issues like that on. I have used various browsers on various pc's with the same result. Mobile is faster but still way too slow to bother as much.
I hate to ask this again (for like, the 4th or 5th time) but has anyone looked at fixing the fact that clicking on a thread doesn't bring you to the last thing you read? It is absolutely infuriating.
Also; maybe it is just the threads I follow personally but as far as I can tell, site usage has gone through the floor the last few weeks. Yesterday it had been over a day since anyone posted anything in any of the numerous threads I follow across multiple forums. I have never seen anything like it
Oh....and the Thanks. Can yee for christ's sake fix the bug that means people can't see who Thanked a post? For people who aren't familiar with using Boards.ie (such as everyone who works at Boards.ie and Vanilla), it is an essential way that people who actually post here interact with one another.
when or when will we be able to view all of our posts?
That should always have been the case? On your profile, under "comments".
Absolutely no delay on desk top.
I can only see posts in threads i have created... how do I see all my posts?
Still the same link, just try again :D
Rich Text Editor.
To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph.
An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu.
Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
