I had a longer piece written but this site is so bad it cancelled the post as I was writing..... so annoying

Anyhow in short . What does the government think will happen with all the rental law changes and uncertainty. Easier investments to be made. The big institutional investors will be ok for the big cities out side that there will be less and less choice

If you'd like to rent a small apartment in Dublin/Cork/Galway- you'll be ok.

If you're looking for a house with a garden- supply will be minimal. If you're looking outside the major urban areas- good luck to you.

Its been entirely predictable- its kind of hard to see why anyone is surprised about it. Policy has been to been to encourage institutional development of blocks of apartments (and a limited number of housing estates)- at all costs, including but not limited to driving the traditional landlords from the sector. Well- people are reaping what they sowed.

I have been watching this car crash go on for the best part of a decade now. Every time i think the government cant make it any worse, they find a way to make it worse.

All they have to do is look at rent controls anywhere in the world to find out that they never work. They make the problem you are trying to fix far worse.

But to roll it back now would be an admission that they fcuked up - or did they.

Part of me believes this was and is being done on purpose, but not to help the people of Ireland. Think about who is making the most money form any rental.
