Motoring show Fifth Gear is going to make a comeback, but now focused on EVs. Presented by Rory Reid, Jason Plato, Vicki Butler-Henderson and Karun Chandhok, as well as journalist Grace Webb and engineer Jimmy de Ville. Coming before the end of the year.

Not sure how they can make an entire motoring show specifically on EVs content may be limited. Even fully charged has limited options and single digit presenters for an episode.

Should be good, you could probably run 6 shows a series with enough new models released in the year to review over each show, mix that with best used to buy, some challenges trying to get most mileage from a charge etc. You also have commercial electric vehicles from vans to trucks they could review.

They drive around for 15 minutes, and spend the next 45 in a Burger King on the side of the M7 whilst the car recharges outside.

It's up today on Discovery+, decent enough.

Some nice walkarounds of cars at Munich Motor Show, I liked the look of the new Renault 5. They managed to put the new Citroen Ami One up on 2 wheels, apparently according to Citroen the Ami One is not a car. They test drove a Kia EV6, very nice spec with summons mode.

Do we need it? Bjorn has destroyed the need for hyperbole TV programs, YT is the way to go, look for your specific need and boom.

A lot of the Youtube stuff is sponsored and so limited in what can be taken as an independent review, no harm having Fifth Gear: Recharged.

It's good for EVs to take prime time TV space and get somewhat balanced reviews compared to top gear or gutter press. You tube is indeed big and often better than TV, but TV still has its place and tends to get a lot more average person viewers than specialist YouTube channels. I was always a fan if 5th Gear even if the budget they had was 1% of top gear.

Top gear do reviews? I thought they'd given up on that years ago and it was just 3 amigos driving around making clowns out of themselves

But I do agree with you, there's still a lot of people who watch car shows on TV and aren't interested in Bjorn's type of review style

Personally I quite like Andy from EVMs style of doing things where he tries to give people the day to day experience of driving an EV as opposed to getting super scientific about it

I think there's a lot of scaremongering from news outlets about how awful living with an EV is which needs to be dispelled. If there's mainstream media out there showing what life is like and saying "look, it isn't worse, some journeys require some planning but overall it's much better" then more people will start thinking about an EV for their next car

I watched the first few episodes and I am waiting for more to drop on my series link.

It was interesting they have an outside presenter to explain home charging rather than trying to get the main presenters to do it.

Their team tests and challenges and eliminations are a bit flat and track driving to pick best EV fir things like city cars is a bit rediculous.

The SEAI is trying to promote EVs through "real world" ambassitors but funding paid promotions is expensive while bad news chop jobs sell papers and clicks, and the automotive industry gives massive money to the newspaper and online media industry. Thousands from each new car sake goes on TV, newspaper and online advertising. The stop advertising if they know a new EV model will sell out, and they raise the price if deliveries are limited.

Independent automotive reviews even on YouTube are rare, in terms of those accepting free cars to test drive, or free cars for a year,or jollies abroad to launches, and all YouTubers also tend to go for click bait titles of good v bad etc.
