TRV with pipes coming from wall directly behind radiator

My house is plumbed with 1/2" to the radiators and the pipes on the ground floor come from the wall directly behind and at the same level as the valve. The radiators all have 3/4" tails and the manual valve is a 1/2"to 3/4". I was looking to fit TRVs but because of both the orientation of the pipes and the need for 1/2 to 3/4" TRV valves the head will stick out from the radiator. I'm thinking to change the tail on this end of the radiators to a 1/2" one and then I can use 1/2" TRV valves and orientate the TRV inline with the rad/wall. Is this possible and will it work? Thanks in advance.

    Yup.

You normally get the valve/rad tail with the trv kit. Its 3/4"*1/2"

You just fit the trv directly onto the valve tail (with olive/nut) in any orientation you can to work.

I have them in all directions in my house.

    Is this 15mm tail

a direct swop for this? It has rubber gaskets on each side and the nut is part of it.

To answer my own question yes that tail is a straight swop for the previous adapter with a good lashing of PTFE tape!
