mentioned multiple times in this article (sorry, advertisement, oops) that the owners of used cars are the "winners" if they trade in against brand new cars. That is anything but true. Cost to change is still higher.

It mentions the perfect storm of brexit and covid but fails to mention new car prices rising just as fast if not faster than used cars.

Following on from the 10 year old deathtrap article last week, should vested interests be declared in newspapers? Social media have to declare if the post is sponsored, I'd like to see the same for mainstream media.

It's a blatant (or subtle for many) encouragement to go to your local dealer where you will get a decent trade in value but will be buying an overpriced new car with discounts not available like in the past.

    Poor effort, Eddie.

So what Eddie, sorry SIMI, is essentially saying this week is that you'd be mad not to trade in your perfectly usable car, then walk for the next six months while waiting for your new one. In the meantime we will sell said car for a massive profit cos the used car market is hot.

We are even interested in cars that are 18 years old despite them being death-traps as advised last week, oh and don't forget to use our sister 'expert' companies to find a used car should you be in the market for buying.

    Disgraceful stuff.

Car prices are doing weird things in the UK. My niece just bought a new mini. She had been planning on buying a 2 year old car, but it was more expensive than a brand new one. She did have to wait a while to take delivery of the new car.

More expensive like-for-like, or just a lower spec new one was cheaper?

Well he kinda refers to a vested interest: according to findings from vehicle data expert Cartell.ie and car sales platform Carsireland.ie. Both sites are owned by Mediahuis, publisher of the Irish Independent. But as usual from the ironically titled "Independent" the rest of the article is the same old SIMI/Gov/financial industry pimping bollocks.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

There is a huge issue with motor industry influence over media, and not just the Independent. Look how many shows on RTE or Newstalk are sponsored by car companies, the last of the big commercial spenders. I'm sure the Jaguar sponsorship has no influence at all over Pat Kenny's constant sniping about cyclists, mind you.
