that depends on your blades. it doesn't pay to have bad ones with bales as blades cheaper than diesel and wear and tear

It should never take an hour, or anywhere close to it to mix a load. If using pit silage put the straw and meal in first then the silage and by the time you’ve the last grab in it’ll be well mixed already. Leave it mixing for 2 or 3 more minutes and that’ll be it. Bales will take a few mins longer but nothing major.

If it’s taking an hour to mix it’s time for either new knives, a new feeder or a new driver!!

Feedall do a 15m one. Redrock have a 14m model. Haven't seen any bigger than them.

I worked with them once. Absolute gentlemen. Great men to adapt a feeder for any particular set up.

Entirely dependant on what your going to be feeding, the 14 cub redrock here will hold a six ton mix of maize silage/wagon silage and 500kgs of meal, if you where putting in baled silage only for instance you'd be lucky to get 3 ton in it, as its a fluffier mix and harder mixed less dense

What number of beef cattle do you need to be feeding before it’ll pay to have a feeder? Finish a good few out of the shed here (how ever long we’ll be doing it for I don’t know) and the meal is all coming out of a barrow at the minute. Then silage on top of that is another job.

I’d imagine the feeder would simplify the job and could mix enough for two days to suit the day job etc. Could also allow us maybe cheapen the diet by adding byproducts to the mix.

I think we run simular numbers and I have tried it twice and gave up both times mainly because I found it time consuming and couldn't control the birds.

I don't like your barrow idea either as its too hard on a man lifting a few tone of meal each week. It's all adlib with hoppers and loader for me.

Your plan of mixing for 2 days I don't think would work either because your mix will go off.
