Ireland to UK - Passport just expired

I'm due to fly to Scotland next weekend and I just now realized that my passport is expired since August ! I didn't notice because like many I haven't flown in years.

I'm meant to be flying with Ryanair. Does anyone know if they still accept other forms of ID or will I have to postpone my trip ?

Ryanair won't budge on the passport requirement. A couple of months ago I witnessed a pretty heated argument with a passenger who was checked in but turned up with an Irish driving licence, and was not allowed to board.

It's ridiculous given that there is no passport requirement to the UK, out or return.

I renewed my passport online in the summer and got it within a week. You might get lucky. Only other option is to postpone.

I can't risk it. I need to fly on the 13th. It'd be pushing it a bit.

All Ryanair flights require a passport or some other type of official government ID which is clearly stated when you book, its not Ryanair's fault that our only national ID is our passports as our European cousins can easily travel with their state ID cards.

You can't complain about Ryanair and the CTA when our government ignores it when you land at our airports.

Thanks guys, it's for my wife's birthday. I just pushed it out a month but thankfully I still have her main present for the big day. In hindsight, the lead-up to Christmas might be nicer in the city we're going to.

If that city is Edinburgh then yes it is. The market and general atmosphere is wonderful. I'll be there myself next month for that very reason (he says, checking his passport...)

I put thorough my passport renewal online last Friday and it arrived in the post this morning. I'm shocked at how quick it was.

Also cost me double for the flights because I rescheduled them !
