I would imagine that’s why he’s there really. Newstalk is starting to really trend in an LBC type direction. But the new owners aren’t interested in a pro business loss making version of Radio 1.

Don't often tune into NewsTalk, but i just did there for a bit and all i can say is, why would someone put that guy Brian Kerr in front of a mic?

He has one of the worst voices for radio i have ever heard.

Did you mean Bobby Kerr? Just turned my radio on and changed stations immediately when I heard him.

Brian Kerr is an absolute legend. 😁

Bobby's voice is very weak since his illness. He had throat cancer I think.

No its a toxic as **** environment run by narcissistic **** whose power and influence over Irish media seriously should be questioned and investigated.

Was listening to newstalk yesterday. Within a short period of a few minutes, amongst Joe Molloys genius, there was Trash Machine -> Cagney voiceover -> Adrian Kennedy reading the news. Terrible

I've listened to Off The Ball a couple of times recently to hear ads > Joe Molloy telling us what was on OTB already, what's coming up, and that it's all available on the OTB app > ads > news > cash machine.

I actually timed over 10 mins one day where the only actual sport was the couple of lines they do with the news headlines on the hour.

Some sort of big shakeup needed in Newstalk.... It's not so long ago that we used to have it on all day. I would say it's now only Pat, and the newsround/football show on OTB that we would switch over for.

Never thought I would see myself going back to morning Ireland but there we go....

Same as that, Pat Kenny is all I listen to nowadays if I have control of the radio.

That Barbara dope who gives terrible advice on Moncfrieff is a dangerous sexist. I wonder how many texts he has to awkwardly ignore calling her out for her shocking takes?

I like the Sean Moncrieff and Pat Kenny (most of the time) and Pat Nevin on the OFTB show...Maybe Tom Dunne at nightime..Thats all at this stage.

SM & PK are the best thing on during the day. I like the regular guest slots, Luke O'Neill, Paul Harrington Bill Hughes etc.

I really enjoy Movies and Booze on a Friday but when the girl who reviews the wine is tasting it she makes horrible slurping sounds that turn my stomach.

Don't normally listen to the Moncrieff Show as I can only get it in the car, but heard a but today re: gender balance in the work place ( assuming it may have moved on from a gender pay gap discussion?) and whoever the contributor was was very blunt, saying men have to accept they will struggle to get jobs on the future as its been white maletoo long. Sean tried to ask about the white male student coming out of college who sympathises with women, about him getting a job, and the woman basically said tough.

I think Sean was dying to say, "what if he is the best candidate".

There are some very hard-core pro gender folk out there.

Tuned into breakfast yesterday morning and they were starting to discuss how men are the only last acceptable group to discriminate against, i thought to myself "hmm i wonder if they will manage this with any nuance and grace"...... then on comes that vacuous troll brendan o neill and once again im turning NT off for the rest of the day.

I stopped reading at Director of Gender Studies. Great living to be made off this nonsense.

Heard the bould Ciara getting very snippy re same issue, it's cool to kick the so-called pale, male and stale demographic these days.

It's great to shyte on about all white all male boardrooms, but go and tell the lad out of Moyross or Tallaght that he's 'privileged'.

I enjoyed that segment. I like Hughie.

Agree with this, although Pat can get a bit (a lot) repetitive on some of his hobbyhorse subjects, have to take a break from him every now and then.

Sean Moncrieff I have the height of time for, it's nearly always something different, and he provides a welcome break from the relentless current affairs/news coverage.

But as much as I love the Movies/Booze Friday slot, since they brought on the third contributor (why???) with the woefully contrived accent (Fionnuala?) I have stopped listening altogether - I can't figure out what she contributes at all. Movies (the movie reviewer), booze (the boozy experts), and then she chimes in with bits on random stuff. And her accent cannot possible be for real, it's like nails on a blackboard to my ears.

Andrea at lunchtime - not doable, at all, ever. Even Joe would be preferable, at least he stirs up a good row, or goes completely off-piste every now and then (cannot believe I just said that)

The movies and booze slot could do well to drop this third wheel and her dreadful accent. Must be someone's daughter and got the gig.

    I would imagine she's definitely someone's daughter.

I like Fionnuala, sometimes that “segment” can get drawn off course when it gets into wine regions, she steers them back towards the movies/celebrity side of things.

What’s the “issue” with her accent? It’s just a country one, no?

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be” - A. Dumbledore

“It is not blood that makes you Irish but a willingness to be part of the Irish nation” - Thomas Davis

It's the incredibly nasal drawl, with an exaggerated uplift? at the end of every single sentence.

I have never heard a country accent like it before (and I'm a big fan of regional accents), and can only assume it's an affectation. Either way, I can't listen to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,172 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

It's like a nasal Montenotte but with a valley girl affectation, probably from a lifetime of watching too many US tv shows. Every second sentence sounds like a question.

Speaking of wacky accents..... who's this that does the playback-style programme early on a Saturday morning??

At least she's missing that annoying uplift? at the end of every sentence, but the way she mangles Sean Moncrieff's name has to be heard to be believed. And every "s" is "SSSSSSSS".

Lunchtime Live turns into Loonchtoime Loiiive.

It is the MOST bizarre way of speaking! (even worse than the celeb contribution girl)
