Has Tayto completly lost it?

Is it me or has the flavor in tayto gone shite these last years? I lived in England back in early 90s, ate Walkers crisps there, dreaming about tayto every mouthful. Then I came home to Ireland mid 90s, and got back on the tayto/king program, all happy. But something has changed in recent years, and I am not sure what. This evening, me and the family did a side by side comparison with tayto salted and Walkers, and the walkers were head and shoulders above. I can't not believe I prefer 'British' potatoes and flavoring now- can't believe it! WTF has happened?!

Side note, not directly related, can crisps manufactures please feck off with adding sugar to crisps? Please just feck off with that shite. Thank you.

Salted crisps are never much to begin with.

I do think in general Tayto crisps can be hit and miss depending on the batch you get tough.

Don't really care of the brand once they're tasty. Whatever potato Walkers use is actually quite tasty, it's a bit firmer or something than Tayto.

More of a King guy over Tayto, but Manhattan is where it's at, esp with a pint!

i think the oppposite where imo tayto flavour has improved as i used much prefer walkers before .neither compare to aldi spuddys yum yum yum

That's not really the important part though. How much of it is saturated fat? That's really the key question.

If it's mostly non saturated, and mostly low sugar carbs, then you're mostly okay.

Still a high fat food and high in salt, so moderation is key. But crisps are not really that unhealthy. Their reputation is somewhat unwarranted compared with other snacks.

King and Manhattan are both superior in flavor and texture I find...mind you I picked up a couple of packets of Smokey Bacon Taylor for the first time in years, and they were nice.

All these new fancy names must be a great marketing success. Plain old Cheese and Onion doesn't sound as good. But I suspect the other ingredients are what might make them moreish.

Tayto Cheese and Onion have pretty much the same list of ingredients along with some artificial E numbers that O'Donnells actually don't have!

E621 is MSG. The food programme on BBC Radio 4 did a feature on it a while back. Turns out it is not as bad as it's reputation. E635 is something I never heard of.
