"Common sense conservatisms" just seems to be a nice way of saying "gullible as fùck".

They literally buy whatever Farage sells and defend the noble leader.

There is no claim here, the proof has literally been posted and yet you STILL defend them!

And all because they appear on a television show. That's the most bizarre thing.

I think Northern Ireland offers a key insight. Current and future generations have little interest in the sort of petty bigotry promoted so earnestly by GB News and defended so zealously here. Common sense conservatism is a crap idea and for that reason, conservatives know it fails in the marketplace of ideas so they create this chimera called cancel culture to hide the fact that institutional corruption and sleaze are only good if you're making a profit. People are losing interest over time in the standard conservative narrative of oppressing people you despise instead of improving the nation.

I was thinking about Margaret Thatcher yesterday. By all means, call her vile, destructive and bloodthirsty but she at least showed strong leadership and could handle her party (well, until the end). Contrast that the with intellectual stunted wretches that make up modern conservatism and it's a remarkable decline in both intelligence and skill. All they can do is spew bile and then whine like the worst sort of spoiled brats when called out on it. They promote based on capacity to fail and loyalty instead of skill which garners criticism which results in the victim narrative being trotted out.

There's as much intellectual rigor to modern conservative narratives as there are to a 4-year old's career plan to become an astronaut but at least the infant is being positive and hopeful instead of shallow, materialistic, hateful and greedy.

That's a good point - Old School Conservatives ,Thatcher & Reagan for example at least had a plan - You might not have liked that plan (in fact a lot hated it) but at least they were working on an actual set of principals (however warped they might have been) tied to a long-term vision of a what they saw as a Conservative future.

Conservatives today have none of that , they stumble from day to day solely concerned with obtaining/retaining power and self-aggrandisement.

They have no "big plan" , they can barely see a few months into the future linked exclusively to their own personal success or failure.

They think only of the next Election , the next "thing" that might help/hinder their hold on power.

They are utterly transparent and amoral.

No Talking Pints tonight, Farage is taking a day off.

Instead, he's going to be replaced by the Home Affairs Correspondent, Mark White (formerly of Sky News).

1.8 million views on GB News each month suggests otherwise.

Because I'm a nerd and numbers interest me , I've wasted 5 minutes on calculating this (making it equivalent to 13 GB News views)

1.8M "views" per rolling 4 weeks at an average of 23 seconds per view (according to BARB) equates to a total viewing amount of 11,500hrs over those 4 weeks.

Now - 4 weeks is actually 672 hours so that means that on average over the course of 4 weeks GBNews have the staggering total of... Drum roll please

    17 viewers each hour

    Rawr was completely correct.

Absolutely no one will notice if Farage is there or not.

You say this as if it's a new thing.

I'm sure he will be spending the weekend furiously trying to find yet another racist has been to join him for (what can only described as looking like) another pint of cats piss.

So - Again.. Because I'm a nerd and conference calls can get boring sometimes , I ran the numbers for BBC News as well.

BBC News has about 12M "view" over the 4 weeks which is about 6 times more than GB News , however each of those "views" actually watches the channel for about 1m25s again nearly 6 times as long.

So that gives BBC News an hourly average of 431 Viewers which is 25 times as many as GBNews.

BBC may have an hourly average of 431 views.

Let's not forget that, at the moment of posting, GB News has 342 active viewers on YouTube alone - which often rises to 900 through the day, up to a peak of almost 1,700 during Farage.

So, even if we take average daily YouTube numbers, they are higher than the hourly average that BBC has.

IT'S A TV STATION NOT A YOUTUBE CHANNEL!!!!!!!!!!!

Also - BBC News doesn't even have a live feed so the "hourly" comparison is entirely moot.

their average during their BEST hour is higher than the BBC average for the entire month. What is the peak number for the BBC? given their average for the month is 431 their peak hour for the month will be many times that.

GB News is a product of both the channel plus their social media outlets.

On their YouTube Channel, BBC with almost 13 million subscribers, have just 80 watching the current live feed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,210 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

It's a tv station, not a Youtube channel. How many TV channels are covering their overheads with just Youtube ad revenue? I'm going to guess none.

BBC News does NOT have a live feed..

The Standard BBC Youtube channel does though

The current BBC "Live" feed is Autumn watch , which right now is showing an empty bird feeder and there are 75 people watching...

But BBC has 44x the number of subscribers, which would translate into 9,240 live viewers for GB News with the equivalent number.

    It's both.

A business is more than one-dimensional.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,210 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

Often, yes. GB News, however is barely even one-dimensional.

It's not a BBC News live feed, it's a bird feeder... Congrats on gb news beating a live feed of a bird feeder... What's next in this fight for irrelevance?

I just found GB News on YouTube. Nigel is presenting. Must say, I'm surprised at its content.

Yet another false equivalency - that will never happen because no one wants to watch GB News.

You're like a Soccer Manager in a post match interview - "Well , I thought we did quite well , if the other team hadn't scored all those goals we might have won"

Give it up, seriously - It's a fringe channel for fringe view-points that will never have any meaningful impact on anyone.

That's far more alarming than anyone watching 1 second of GB News.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 17,324 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

    What is?

The fact that people would quite literally prefer to watch grass grow than watch GB News?

Using youtube to try and big up GBNews is hilarious considering its doing woeful as a youtube channel by most metrics same as its failing as a TV Channel.
