Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Disabled Passengers vrt/vat exempt scheme

    New car purchased beginning of this year, disabled passenger died during the year, what is the position regarding vat/vrt now the car is not eligible for the scheme, the car is registered to a family member who was responsible for transporting the disabled passenger. Is there a partial repayment due to Revenue and does the car have to held for two years as would be required under the scheme.

    I've actually emailed citizens information as revenue lines were not open this afternoon to take a call, will try again tomorrow.

    I think Revenue will require full repayment of the vrt & vat.

    Am familiar through my family with very similar to this. OP,you qualified for the reliefs when the vehicle was purchased or registered in the state. It should be set out in the conditions of those reliefs what situations allow the state to recover any VAT or VAT for which those reliefs were given. To the best of my knowledge, it only arises in situations where the vehicle is disposed of before a minimum period of ownership has been met.

    Yes you can talk to Revenue and Citizens Advice, and possibly Irish Wheelchair association - who were excellent. I would caution about Revenue as they have given us here conflicting advice previously and refused reliefs which they said we were entitled to. The taxes had to be paid and were eventually refunded on appeal. It was an horrendous experience

    Whe I was commencing purchase of a new car recently the salesperson mentioned the scheme, asking might I qualify because he saw I had a Blue Badge, I took a Quick Look online and saw I certainly didn’t qualify as I have all limbs. The criteria are incredibly strict, I believe but as far as I saw scheme still exists.
