How to put a cattle tag back on ?

You need to order a replacement tag from either Mullinahone Co-OP or Cormac Tagging.

The biggest joke of the of the whole lot is if you order 2 replacement tags at the same time it raises a red flag.

Dept official down here always warns people at inspections of it.

About 3 weeks ago there was one of the biggest operators here got an inspection and he was told it was because he ordered 2 replacement tags.

Actually the same dept inspector said the golden rules are never not order tags and never order a pair of replacement's.

Had an inspection here a couple years ago and I asked the department vet about ordering pairs of tags and inspections, he said that's a myth. They prefer if you order them As needed and if it's a pair you need so be it. I ordered a pair yesterday.....I ordered a pair a month ago, I needed 1 tag but it was for a loopy bull, I was afraid if I messed up tagging him with it and closed it before putting it in his ear I wouldn't be able to sell him

Years ago when the brass tags were used for cattle and the silver tags for suck calves I remember seeing a lad with an adapted vice grips thingie for changing tags. In those days I think they used to swap tags for cattle & calves coming from the North and visa versa.

Yes 3 or more sets of twins can cause a lad to call to look at them, had it here 1 year & to of the sets had 1 red & 1 black Lm each. The department man (who has been out a few times & is seriously sound) was laughing & slagging that they definitely looked mixed up only for he seen 1 set drinking the cow.

The tagging companies have partial access to your DAFM herd profile as in the animal that you ordering the tag for must be in your herd at the time of ordering.

I presume that they asked him for his herd number or they accessed his account through his phone number etc most of the information Pop's on screen when the customer rings and they have access to ensure the animal is in the person's herd
