Didn’t know Geoffrey from ‘Rainbow’ played keyboards/harmonica for the Quo.

So after watching the jazz divas doc and having to record the second half of the Billie Holiday one out of respect for Paddy Malone's well too short tribute on the depression show - next week's BBC4 offerings might include a new Zappa documentary. But I'll defer to Skid for details and confirmation. The Fun Boy Three gig from 1983 is quite good at the moment.

Yup zappa is 9.00 next Friday. Having seen it I'd say you would want to be a serious fan to enjoy it

Excellent Gil Scott-Heron documentary on Sky Arts right now :)

’The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’ - classic!

Didn't catch it but it's repeated Fri 22 Oct 02:15 BST

The Fun Boy Three Old Grey Whistle Test live show was really good, pity they only lasted two albums really.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,584 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

yeah I really enjoyed the FB3 gig, shame it was so short and they didn't do "The Lunatics have taken over the Asylum".

They split off from The Specials but went in quite a different direction, more pop, more rhythmic. Liked the all-female backing band too.

    So there you go,

The Examiner is publishing a good series of music articles, here's one about Mic Christopher https://www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle/artsandculture/arid-40714556.html

Odd performance on the LLS featuring Donovan, Violinist Nigel Kennedy and former member of The Fall Brix Smith (and others) which seems to divide opinion. Those mics might need to be locked down ...

Here's a fairly recently uploaded full two hour Kate Bush concert from 1979, filmed for Granada but never broadcast due to film quality issues

Someone has tidied it up well ...

That's about it, I'll be taking a break next week so no listings from me until the week after

Finally, the best song about Kyle's Mom of the week might be this one from South Park: Bigger Longer And Uncut (Comedy Central Saturday 11.10pm)

Woah, lots of excellent stuff this week!

Wanna see the Buddy Guy yoke & the cigar box blues craic.

That Zappa yoke is directed by none other that Bill S Preston esquire, which may of course have been mentioned already.

    Nice one as always Skid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,584 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

Zappa always seems like an interesting guy, but I've never really taken to any of his music that I've heard (with the exception of Hot Rats). I'll give the documentary a go nonetheless.

Watched the cigar box guitar thing when it was on before, well worth the watch.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Mic Christopher article...

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,
