Variations on price across dealerships.

Hello all,

I'm taking the plunge. Nissan's 0% finance, second hand car market screwed and rising fuel costs have helped push me on.

Have my eye on a 40kw SV premium.

I've never bought new, have boardies had success On price shopping around various dealerships?

Unless you get a car on inventory I believe there's not a huge chance of getting a discount on the list price unless you're a cash buyer

Generally what the dealerships will be flexible on is the value of your trade in. Basically of they give you a decent trade in value then that's your discount

We ordered an e2008 last May, car is finally arriving next week. We went to 3 dealerships and they all offered an identical trade in price for our leaf. One garage was 1200 more expensive and the other 2 were very close. I wanted to use my local dealer but the one in the city was offering 2 free services, went back to local dealer and he chopped a further 200 off so was happy with the deal we got. I would advice visit 3 or 4 dealers, get the pricing and play them off each other. I think things might have tightened up a bit lately but sure nothing ventured and all that...good luck.

Yeah, exactly this. I have done the same twice with LEAFs. You might also price up a few options for second-hand SV premiums or SVEs and play that into the mix too. There are lots of SH 40kWh LEAFs on the market, and you could get the 62kWh one SH (2019) for the price of a 212 40kWh.

Cash doesn't always get the best discount. The dealers make money from the finance company so can offer a better deal if you finance the purchase with them.

Bought the 40Kw Leaf SVE in Feburary.

Went to two local garages. Got two different prices. Asked the local garage to match the other price. Took him 2 weeks to come back to me at which point I was already driving a new car. His offer was still more expensive.

We bought a leaf that was in stock. Got an ok trade in, the ESB charger offer and 0% fiance. I dont think I would have expected much wiggle room in price.

I got an ID3 on 0% PCP in August, prices varied from no discount to €2k off list.

Did you get the discount because they f*cked up the original order, or did you negotiate that beforehand?

Either way you did well, it seems easier to buy a house these days than a new ID.3

But overall, isn't cash cheaper? You might get a better deal with finance, but if the cost of finance is more than the deal, you lose.

I'm not experienced with finance, but why would even 0% finance command a better deal than cash?

Negotiated in May, just as the delays were starting to show.

They offered me €16k trade on my i3. When I dug a bit deeper he admitted that it was really €14k trade, and the other €2k was just the level of wiggle room he had against the list price.

So I sold the car privately for €16k and he still gave me the €2k that he had already admitted he had as negotiating room.

In another time I'd say I might have got more off but €2k ain't half bad.

He's just saying that cash buyers don't always get the biggest discounts contrary to popular belief.

If any individual had the choice of cash or financing then yes of course cash is best for anyone's pocket long run.

Just don't get your cash from a credit union load (dealer told me he's had some do that with him).

Yeah CU Loan APR is way too high.

Some Banks have a very attractive "Green" loan rate, which includes buying EVs. Think AIBs is about 6.5%. Much better off getting car with that loan rather than Financing at 5.9%.
