there are a good few life owners in the uk Facebook group. if the smaller battery had met our needs the life spec would have been fine for me.

Drive in B all the time. Better control of the car. You can get the best of both worlds with B. By feathering the throttle you can use coasting which is a great way of getting better range.

Folks. Can anyone suggest how I get eFlow to apply the EV discount to my account. I have messaged them and emailed them but no luck or reply yet! Thanks.

Probably not the answer you’re looking for but I use a 3rd party provider rather than deal directly with M50. I’ve registered with them as an EV and they refund me in real time.

I've only ever had success when I called them, I'm fairly sure the email account just goes direct to trash

    Call them.

    Wait 50 minutes.

Hope someone answers who knows something about EVs, and doesn't hang up on you.

Receive the "you should get an email in about a week" spiel.

    Wait a week/month

    ...rinse and repeat...

Dunno how they didn't get named in the customer service report published today.

I see that the Patara is due in Dublin this Friday (who ever thought I'd be religiously checking marine traffic?).

My VIN has been up on MyVolkswagen for at least 2 weeks now, so I'm going to assume my car is on that boat.

Question for those who have been through this: how long should I expect between the arrival of the boat and the day I can collect the car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,078 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Longer than you'd think. Mine arrived in on Monday I think, didn't get to the dealer until Friday afternoon.

Wife took a trip to the rapid after work today, pumped the car right up to 95%.

Pretty good rate of charge right up to the end. This is the rapid in Derry that barely hits 40kW at the best of times, but here it is on 33kW at 91% and it stayed at 31kW right up to 95%.

Your car will go from Dublin Port to NVD (National Vehicle Distribution) in Baldonnell where they perform PDI (pre-delivery Inspection) for most major car brands. They will then transport your car to your dealer by transporter. The process takes between 5-7 working days.

Depends on the situation, B for me is better in town, on the open road I love being able to take my foot for a time off the accelerator and let it coast where as with B you have to keep your foot on the accelerator a lot more, Coasting on energy already consumed is more efficient than using regen, but regen of course is good when you actually need to slow down. Coast when you otherwise don't need to accelerate or slow down.

You can use D but then you need to be constantly adjusting the throttle position which can to me be a nuisance. But there are times when B is good, when in town for instance. Having the option is great, in the BMW i3 there was no option it was 1 pedal driving or nothing.

What was your delivery date ? I paid deposit last week in April, Delivery date was mid July but arrived 3 months later.

My VIN showed up First week in July think it was and picked the car up last Tuesday! But well worth the wait, I'm loving it!

Others that ordered their cars after mine got theirs maybe a month before me or a little sooner so you might be luckier than I was.

How do you find B mode on travel assist? I would have thought it would make the braking a bit sharper but I haven't noticed any difference personally

I guess the travel assist might have a more direct access to the braking system, so it just decides how much regen it wants regardless of driving mode

Yeah, travel assist just does it's own thing and to be honest for most of my commute I'm doing nothing anyway only watching the road and chilling. It's a real blessing that's for sure.

Its a pain in the hole... After a couple of weeks of trying to talk to someone I was eventually given the email address required to apply. Send a message to LEVTI@eflow.ie requesting sign up for the low missions vehicle toll incentive.

It will we a few weeks before you hear back with the approval. It will then take another 2 months before the reductions are shown in your statement - that's what I was told when I asked why nothing changed after it was approved!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 728 ✭✭✭Bif

Cheers for that. Do they backdate the reductions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 566 ✭✭✭electricus

i Asked about that but the answer wasn’t very clear. Hopefully It will be taken off in my next bill.

The regen is fine, the id3 just applies less regen when you lift off say than the bmw i3 but when you press the brake you get decent level of regen, they can't apply too much regen on the rear axle though as the rear wheels could drag depending on the surface. You can apply much more regen via the front axle.

I'm getting a OBD dongle today and android phone and will use evnotify which should tell me a lot more about regen, battery heater etc.

Wash and polish for the weekend. Heading to the North Antrim coast with a break in Belfast on the way up.

If the charger outside Banbridge is free I'll stop en-route otherwise there is a charger in the car park the hotel use so can leave over night. Realistically I will get the whole journey done on the one charge, just means I'll have charge in the battery when I get up and won't have to be leaving it on the ac charger for a few hours.

Use a mix of D and B also depending on the road, D on motorways everything else B. Find with travel assist there is not much intervention although you do need to be prepared for when it decides that the speed limit has changed e.g. exit 10 on the Athlone bypass.

Nice! what did you polish it with ?

Mine is absolutely filthy, certainly doesn't look new any more, over 1000 kms since last Tuesday!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭cannco253

I'm on my third bill, still no discounts applied.

    Bit of work which involved:-

    Pressure wash

    Polar Blast snow foam

    Rinsed with pressure washer

Washed, 2 buckets, 1 for the shampoo and one for rinsing the mitt after each panel

    Rinsed with pressure washer

Another wash and another rinse then towel dried.

Gets a coat of Super Resin Polish, then a couple of coats of extra gloss protection then a final coat of Zaino Z8, polished off in between. Got a fair few of the Autoglym products from the dealer thrown in when doing a bit of haggling.

The plastics and rubbers will also get dressed.

Will probably get clayed the next time although I find after the above it is generally easier to keep clean.

Went for the Life Trim. No regrets . I felt i saved 3 k or more on the bells and whistles . Has everything I needed especially ACC which I have to say is brilliant.

No reversing Cam, you can easily live without it..The sensors are super anyway and there is a graphic on the screen when in reverse.

The LED headlights are more than adequate. Swapped out the wheel trims for alloy lookalikes , just the biz..

    All in all very happy.

It will have less regen because it’s designed to predict ahead rather than just going to max regen.

e.g it will apply no regen and just coast if there is nothing ahead and no junctions etc. That improves efficiency.

You can turn it off and just go for max regen if you like but VW’s dynamic regen is way better than 1-pedal driving, IMO.

Was lucky again returning home today at Banbridge. Went on AC for about 15mins until a Leaf had finished, then got the CCS. Had a look at the Sprucefield charge point when passing. Was in a sorry looking state, plugs strewn everywhere. Looked like the AC was operational, but didn't try it.

My car had some moisture on the driver seat and on the floor under it and around the door frame tonight, I think there might be a problem with the seal and it allowed condensation to form inside. Has anyone come across anything like this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,670 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Nothing like that on mine. If the seat is wet though there must be a good bit of water getting in up high?

    Do you have a sunroof?

Folks. What is your normal home charging regime? How high do you normally charge, how low do it leave it drop before charging? Is there an optimum charging routine for battery life / preservation? Thanks.

20 to 80% is best for battery. Charge to 100% for longer journeys. Depending on your mileage charge as often as you like. If you charge to 100% and leave it sitting that will put internal pressure on it and degrade it over time. The same applies if ran down to near 0%. It's most comfortable at 20 to 80%. The 80% covers most day to day journeys. Home charging is also best for battery health.
