Starting to feel like that was the plan for a while.

Just needed someone to direct the mob towards.

Longest and one of the strictest lockdown in Europe.

One of the highest uptake of vaccine in the world.

Vaccine passports in operation for three months.

Countries with lower uptake and less restrictions opened weeks and months ago.

Cases rising and the hospitals at breaking point with 70 in icu.

But it is the fault of a group of people who now number only 1 out of every 10 people in the country. Or maybe the brits.

Murky or no concrete daily or weekly stats released by the hse.

A group due to be disbanded within a week suddenly getting concerned again.

A vaccine passport that has not so far stopped a rise in cases, now possibly extended to prevent a rise in cases.

Arguments used by anti-maskers last year now used by niac this morning to explain the continued death of vaccinated people.

A leader going to concerts in the UK while 6 to a table indoors over here.

A party celebrating a murky appointment that is legitimised after the fact when even those enforcing the restrictions didn't know it was allowed.

But it is the fault of a group of people who now number only 1 out of every 10 people in the country. Or maybe the brits.

The below is the HSE advice on how to wash your hands, regularly. I doubt many are following this and no amount of preaching from the RTE alter will change attitudes.

    1. Wet your hands with warm water and apply soap.
    2. Rub your hands together palm to palm until the soap forms a lather.
    3. Rub the back of one hand with your palm and fingers spread so you wash between fingers. Repeat with the other hand.
    4. Interlock the top of your hands and rub your fingertips - this cleans your fingertips and knuckles.
    5. Then finally grasp your thumb tightly and twist to make sure your thumbs are cleaned. Repeat with the other hand.
    6. This should take at least 20 seconds.
    7. Rinse your hands under running water.
    8. Dry your hands with a clean towel or paper towel.

I'd question it cos she has an agenda to cover her own ass. There are questions on why boosters aren't being approved to her and NIAC so she's diverting it to it's all the unvaccinated rather than the booster issue. When we're getting different stats from different people too on it nearly every day, it looks odd and everyone stats can't be right on it.

I'd question do we actually know the percentage vaccinated and the amount unvaccinated as a result. Getting accurate population numbers is impossible on any day, and the most accurate data is CSO data in that regard, and with the amount of foreign born people here, they could easily have got vaccinated in their original country or not even be resident here anymore.

Tbh I didn't think that would change anyway next week. Ireland is too conservative.

But reopening night clubs is something

Curious as to where you are seeing this? Is it just murmurings from some politicians on tv or have you seen something more concrete than that ?

Lots of confusion on the % vaccinated in ICU.

There the initial report and the most recent. You can work out the figures from it:

    Bad wording by the HSE.

    From the October 9th one.

402 admitted to ICU with positive for Covid-19

279 of these were unvaccinated, 123 of these were vaccinated with at least one dose of which 82 were double jabbed

    So of the 402:

    279 completely unvaccinated (69.4%)

    41 were partially vaccinated (10.2%)

    82 were fully vaccinated (20.4%)

Of the 82 fully vaccinated, half were below the age of 67 and half were over the age of 67, with a range of 30 to 88 years. 98% of these had an underlying medical condition.

Why is an unelected member of NPHET telling people to work from home this autumn/winter? Surely this type of advice should come from people we voted for no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,052 ✭✭✭✭titan18

That data is garbage though as it's from April to October 9th. It's logical that most in April to July will be unvaccinated so we need to see of hospitalisations since then to draw anything meaningful. Or even just of the 70ish in ICU today, what's the breakdown.

Yep and this is really opening the door for Dr Tony's glorious return on Monday who will say 'Glynns message is not enough and that lockdown is needed'

Nodding head MM/Leo and that other twit won't have the balls to disobey him

He's the deputy CMO. Providing public health advice is basically his entire job and it doesn't have to be approved by or said through the government.

Specialist positions are exactly the kind of thing that should never be subject to a vote. You wouldn't ask Leo Varadkar for his advice on how best to maintain your garden, you'd ask a gardener.

Likewise, politicians don't give public health advice, qualified medical people do. Politicians may repeat that advice, but they don't provide it.

Leo could offer gardening advice, he knows a lot about Leeks.

Public health official in reiterating public health advice shocker.....

Who does Ronan Glynn think he is telling me to wash my hands. Shouldn't that be coming from higher up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,402 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

There's 2 letters, so very easy to note the difference between the dates to get the figures for 26th Sept to 9th Oct:

    29 Not vaccinated (53%)

    14 partially vaccinated (25%)

    12 Fully vaccinated (22%)

If you want to exclude partially vaccinated:

    29 Not vaccinated (71%)

    12 Fully vaccinated (29%)

Reiterate? When was this said before? Many offices are planning full returns in the coming weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,443 ✭✭✭✭stephenjmcd

It's been said plenty of times.

All that's due to lift Friday is the wording that it's a legal requirement to work from home.

In my own place nothing changes come next Friday, we've had a staggered return for about 3 weeks now which sees hybrid working basically as the new way of working. In my own experience from speaking to others in the sector I work in and friends in general there's none of their employers planning a full return. The way it is now is the way its staying for most from what I can see.

It's up to the companies what they envisage a staggered return as

One is it's legal responsibility on firms to have WFH in place.

The other is well its not a legal responsibility, we advise you to have WFH as an option but we can't force you as its not a legal requirement

Public health advice since July 2019 has been to work at home of possible, just because the actual legal responsibility to do so is being lifted next Friday, the advice remains.

If we take the difference between the two, the numbers do seem to tally with whats been said:

    Oct 9th - Sep 25th - Diff.

    Total - 402 - 356 - 46

    No Vaccine - 279 - 250 - 29 - 63%

    1 Dose - 123 - 106 - 17 - 37%

    Fully Vaccinated - 82 - 70 - 12 - 26%

Hahaha you couldn't make this up if you tried!!! Lots of offices gone back over the last few weeks and now we have the deputy CMO causing confusion telling people to work from home over winter...

I imagine lots of companies are now contacting politicians asking what the official line is. What a mess we are.

With all the noises coming from NPHET at the moment I won't be surprised at all if they push for reimposing some restrictions next week as opposed to just a delay.

The divide between what is government advice and what is NPHET’s has never been clearly defined. We've also had a situation where the press has been free to access anyone they choose so we've heard plenty from NPHET members. That Glynn advice may well come from the government on the Friday anyway so it’s a bit pointless getting wound up about it.

I know it does affect some (and personally I'd like to get back to the office), but the easiest thing to not lift will be this. I'd rather hospitality rules are loosened and WFH requirements remain than the other way around anyway. I'd argue it has a bigger effect too in keeping people wfh longer.

63 compared to 70 and 80% been mentioned in the last 2 days.

The state's messaging this week has been an absolute shitshow. They are tripping over themselves to get talking to the media, each time contradicting the others. It begs the question, what the hell is going on?

Not according to citizens information though.

Workers still working from home can return to the workplace on a phased and staggered basis. Up until 22 October 2021, attendance should initially be for specific business needs.

After 22 October 2021, the requirement to work from home will be removed. A return to physical attendance in workplaces will be allowed on a phased and cautious basis.

Yes, the requirements will be lifted but the advice will still be to do it, pubs have been open for months and the advice is still to meet outside. It's a really insignificant thing for people to get weirdly annoyed about.
