Woodquay Park gets funding

I'm sure the residents will be delighted with converting their neighbourhood to public drinking zone.

Especially poignant to have it announced this weekend, when new students have so pronounced in their enjoyment of the area.

Surely the clue is in the name, Park. I would have assumed it's the small gated, fenced park down by the Rowing club.

a milion quid for that gated green area? Who put forward this idea?

I guess you'll walk or drive past Woodquay Park to get to it.

Apparently some of the residents objected to it taking place in the park. It is their right, of course, to object and make their feelings known, but the decision to move it seems strange to me.

If you choose to live beside a public park then you are signing up to the normal activities that a city centre park would be expected to feature. A showcase for local bands to perform for free, once in a blue moon, doesn't seem outlandish to me. Especially when it's on a Saturday afternoon and will be over by 6PM.

Disagree. This is a city fringe park, which exists mainly to provide green space for the residents, because most of their homes have little outdoor space. It's not the right venue for ticketed organised events drawing people from other areas.

Especially as their are plenty of other venues for such events nearby, which already have appropriate facilities ( toilets, shelter etc).

Same as the allotments on Lough Atallia Rd - wouldn't they make a lovely cycle lane!

They absolutely would, not many of them in use these days either given that a lot of the properties opposite are Airbnb or the like.

And do you think that the proposed intimate performance venues (what were they thinking about with that name!) meets those criteria?

These residents have one of the worst city-fringe areas for ASB as it is. You'd think that a simple gteet area with some kids play equipment would not be difficult but apparently it is.

I think their biggest issue was that it's gone from a lovely community area that they all grew up and raised families in to an area you pass through to get somewhere. It's mainly temporary renters and car parking spots.
