Even look at Liverpool. Nowhere near the money of City, Chelsea or even us. But competent football people running the football side of the club

Klopp had them in a UCL final in his 2nd full season. Won it in his 3rd. Won the league in his 4th.

4 manager in 8 years and we've never got past the quarters or been in a title race

Where are you getting £150M of centre backs from? Are you seriously valuing Phil Jones at £90M? 😀 Varane and Maguire are both out this weekend.

That said, I would also say it's not an excuse. Leicester have defensive problems of their own and have been leaking goals this season. Fofana is a long term injury and Evans has played very little and is a doubt again for Saturday. We should be well capable of getting a result.

If anything happens Bailly or Lindelof though.....well I'd be less confident!

it's worth noting that City had started their rebuild a year earlier under Thai ownership and finished 9th under SG Eriksson, though they then sacked him and brought in Mark Hughes just before they were sold again to Abu Dhabi. So they weren't starting from the position of being a basket case.

Great that the international break is over & we are back this weekend. Sink or swim time during the next 6 weeks.

Our Under 21 team in action against Sunderland tonight in the Papa John's trophy. Might be no harm to give Phil Jones a run out as the overage player rather than Paul McShane ;-)

Edit: not sure what the exact rules are but I know McShane played in the previous round.

Does anyone know when the PL fixture days/times are updated? Looks like we know up until the Arsenal match (30th November, 8pm) at the moment. Everything after that is still listed as 3pm Saturday kick offs.

Hoping to go to the Southampton game on 12th February but have a wedding on the 11th. Probably won't be announced until near/after Christmas? TIA.

    Some truth bombs from Carragher.

Jamie Carragher has accused Roy Keane and Gary Neville of consistently backing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer because he is “their mate”.

Despite finishing second in the Premier League last year and investing heavily in his squad with the arrival of Raphael Varane (€40m), Jadon Sancho (€85m) and Cristiano Ronaldo (€20m), Neville recently said that he didn’t think Manchester United “had enough to win the title”.

Keane and Neville enjoyed trophy-laden careers with Solskjaer at Old Trafford and Carragher revealed he got angry during a recent conversation with the pair as they kept “making excuses for their mate”.

“Recently what’s got me angry? It’s probably something to do with football and probably something to do with Neville, let me just think,” Carragher told the Tony Bellew Is Angry Podcast.

“He’s permanently making excuses for his mate Ole, isn’t he?

“I do a newspaper column and I was with Gary Neville a few days before, we were doing this YouTube chat about the season with Roy Keane, and the two of them were making excuses for Ole because he’s played with them and he’s their mate.

“They’re sort of saying ‘they can’t win the league, they still lack this, they still need that, the Glazers aren’t putting enough in, they should be going for Harry Kane’.

“I’m sitting there thinking, ‘you’ve just signed a fella that’s won the Champions League four times (Ronaldo)’.

“You’ve spent £75million on a winger (Sancho), you’ve finished second in the Premier League last season, you didn’t lose a game away from home (in the league). There’s only one place to go.

“Honestly, it just wound me up and I thought, ‘that is it, I’m doing my newspaper column on it’.

“Ole wasn’t too happy with the column, but I just said it’s time the excuses stop at Manchester United, I’m sick of it.

“You go through the whole team, it’s unbelievable.”

Leicester, Atalanta and Liverpool the next three for us. By Monday week the daggers could well and truly be out.

Fred and Cavani in action tonight/early hours of tomorrow so they won't be available on Saturday.

McTominay & Pogba in midfield (Matic also a possible)

Rashford back from injury. Could he start off the left?

I hope Sancho starts, he made a good impact off the bench vs Everton.

I'd be very surprised to see Rashord in the lineup.

Truth bombs from Carragher.... who refused to stick the boot into his mate Lampard and said as much himself. He can jog on with those hypocritcal truth bombs.

Ronaldo has won 5 champions leagues to be fair

No, but doesn't give him a leg to stand on to critise others for doing the exact thing he did for his mate, and admitted he did for his mate.

If anything, I would say that while Neville and others don't call for Ole to be sacked, they have been critical of him - more so than Carragher or the media in general were of Lampard when he had a better Chelsea team in a worse position than Ole has ever had United. Ole gets criticised more than any other manager imo. He has never been given the glowing endorsements Lampard and Arteta have got in their time, while not doing as well as United/Ole.

I would like Ole to be replaced, but the idea that even guys like Neville aren't critical is a myth. Never mind the rest of the media.

He might be a hypocrite but he ain't wrong so not sure why he should jog on.

Ole had for serious protections from the lads he knows on sky and on bt.

Neville went on on Nuno more then he ever haa on ole and he only in the job a few months with no pre season giving him stick about the way the team Is playing and it's on the manager.

    Ole ways escapes it.

I'll glad carragher is calling it out even if he didn't call out Frank which I don't care about cause to be perfectly honest I wish he was still. In the Chelsea job

Ole never gets critisiaed my neville they side step it, play the team say they only play in moments but never call. Out ole for doing a bad job.

Players get called out, the owners get called out but never ole always something he needs never anything what he should do.

Ole got plenty of praise on his good runs but tbh he has never warranted much else and lampard is English, all. English players and managers get bigger up all the time it's nothing new

Carragher is a hypocrite but he is right.

I'm looking forward to see if he sticks the boot in on Gerard when he gets the Liverpool job. I predict he'll go even easier on him than Gary has on Ole.

But regardless of that, Ole is out of his depth and the knives should already be out to be honest.

One thing I constantly hear Ole praised for is "he's made good signings" (even if he doesn't have a clue how to use some of them)

That's fine but if you're going to give Ole credit for signing players, than he should be called out for the frankly utterly insane decision to splash £73m on another winger instead of prioritising a holding midfielder, which should have been the no.1 priority over Sancho, Varane or Ronaldo.

So if Ole gets credited for bringing in players, than the massive hole in midfield is on him.

Didn't Neville recently say the team isn't coached well or something like that? I remember him saying we don't work as a unit rather than hoping individual players do something for us. That's as close as he's come to criticizing the coaching staff but at least its starting to seep in.

Plus its not only Ole that Keane and Neville would be worried about upsetting. It's Carrick, Fletcher and Phelan also that they worked along side for years.

I'm not sure I can really remember Keane going in on a manager as pundit, has he? My overriding memory of him is that he tends to side with the manager and blame players moreso regardless.

Neville, yeah he's given Ole a soft ride - as many have both here & in the media, I guess a large part of that was down to how many people wanted to believe he was the man. Wanted him to be the right guy because we do all love him from his playing days.

Of course I could say its been plain as day for a long time he was never the man, but he definitely had a purpose and did well as a caretaker for the most part. Its not his fault ultimately that he isnt good enough, but a lot of things are within his control and his fault. But in terms of hitting the mediocre targets that were set for him by the owners he did what he was asked and he got his new contract on that, again the issue is with how the decisions are made at the club more than anything else there. Will cost the club more now when it comes time to pull the trigger but sure hey, thats what we do.

Ultimately I think Neville and the others in the media are like a lot of the fans who just wanted to believe that Santa Claus was real. I think it will hurt Neville to have to cut him down, they are humans at the end of the day and its hard to distance yourself from people you shared a dressing room with and had success with.

Drives me nuts of course when I hear him making tired excuses but I do understand it, same way I'll understand it when Gerrard rocks up at, and fails at, Liverpool and his former teammates in the media will be very slow to criticise and look for a long time to make excuses for him. It is what it is.

United needed Sancho more than a midfielder. Very strange that he has been played on the left but I guess the plan was for Greenwood to be up front learning from Cavani which won't happen now with Ronaldo and Cavani vying for the position. Lingard was supposed to start the season on the left I think with Sancho on the right but the Covid situation ruined that (I wonder if Lingard was vaccinated?).

With Rashford back hopefully that can change soon and Greenwood drops to the bench so a settled front 4 can be tried. Need a better work ethic from at least 2 of them though to work consistently.

    Can't agree with that.

Greenwood and Amad (who cost us £40m) as 1st and 2nd choice RW are far better options than what we have in the midfield. We have a plethora of options on the left.

Having a strong midfield is also much more important than having a world class RW.

If we needed a RW so much, the guy we spent £73m on to solve that issue would be playing on the RW. The fact that he's playing on the left proves that it wasn't as important as it's made out to be.

If we had signed Rice in the summer, he'd have gone straight into the midfield, no questions asked. That's where the Sancho money should have gone.

People forget that Rashford/Martial/Greenwood outscored Liverpool's front 3 the year they won the league, and we then added Cavani to that. And we've known for 2 years that Matić's legs were gone. Yet we're still neglecting the midfield and signing more attackers.

Under Ole, us fans have been conditioned to believe that we need to buy player X to fill *enter specific role here*, and until that happens we can't compete. When in reality, our attacking options before Sancho were more than good enough to go and compete and the real weakness was in midfield.

Ole has got exactly what tools he wanted and right now he's failing with them

Greenwood who got what, 3 goals in the first half of last season and already looks off the boil this one? Martial is a fraud. He'll get you the 3rd goal in a 3-0 win but when push comes to shove he'll go missing. We've seen that season after season.

Sancho is one of the best young players in the world. Didn't get ripped off for him and filled the biggest gap in the attack. United's problem is a lack of attacking imagination. Sancho linking with Ronaldo should have been the platform to addressing that but they've already been dragged back by the lack of any tactical system.

Greenwood had bad form last season because of personal issues. But he's infinitely more effective in his role than either of McFred are, and a good coach would get better performances from him.

Since 2019/20 we've gotten CR7 and Cavani, so we don't even have to use Martial. Those 2 certainly aren't frauds.

I get that Sancho is one of the best young players in the world. But that's not the point and I never argued against that.

The lack of attacking imagination comes from the coaching, not lack of players. We have all the attacking talent in the world, but no system.

The attack is good enough, it's just poorly coached.

The midfield is just sh*te, regardless of who the coach is.

Greenwood is not a right sided attacker and if that is going to be his position he had a gell of a lot to do.

He offers very little in the build up, and isn't overly creative and is excessively greedy in front of goal.

He is a supremely talented young lad but shouldn't be starting for us right now. He is not good enough especially on the right.

He also doesn't work back enough, its madness having him Bruno, Pogba and Ronaldo in one team.

How anyone could think anything other than having two workhorse type midfielders to try to cover for that front four is beyond me.

You take McFred out of the team and we are a worse team for it, this has been shown time and again. Do I think McFred will win us the league? Of course not, but thats a different argument.
