I had been wondering for the longest time if there was something afoot. My wife and I share the same account and she loves those mushy series where big-town women fall in love with a rustic everyman. Those Xmas Netflix films are catnip. Every time she goes through a couple of them, the thumbnails would change from something ... contextual to the show, to mugshots of the leads, often in romantic (or adjacent) poses. Most notable in the shows we DO watch together.

Andy Serkis is to star in the upcoming Caddyshack remake.

The Caddyshack remake will star Andy Serkis and directed by Gus Van Sant. The Lord Of The Rings star will don the mocap suit to play the cuddly Gopher.

My friend has a Kickstarter for a new film they are looking to start making next month of they reach the goal of €16,000. They are currently on 12k and have 9 days left to reach the target.

For gamers out there, Steve Palmer aka Bill Williamson from Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2 will be flying over to join the cast. So please check out the link and if it's something that sounds interesting, throw a few quid if you can spare please, would love to see this project come to life.

I recently finished listening to the podcast "The Butterfly Effect" by Jon Ronson and it's about the creation of Pornhub and the company behind them "MindGeek". They go into how they used this sort of stuff depending on your viewing history so maybe Netflix were inspired by them. There's so many amazing bits of psychology in internet usage that you don't even know are influencing you.

Saw someone suggest a remake with The Rock and Kevin Hart, which could work. Or could just be too much.

Anything with Kevin Hart is way too much. Even the Graham Norton show.

Christopher Nolan has ended his longtime partnership with Warner Bros.

His new film will be with Universal and will be about Oppenheimer and the atomic bomb.

He wasn't happy and was vocal about Warner's moving cinema releases to HBO Max.

Keanu Reeves is 57 which is a year younger than Sean Connery was when he made Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Connery was also playing father to a character whose own actor was only 7 years his junior.

If you had told me in the mid 90s that affable plank Keanu Reeves would be one of the most beloved and biggest stars in 2020/1, I'd have called you mad.

Looks like Francis Ford Coppola is going to sink the money made from his successful winery into a final film, Megalopolis. He may put as much as $100-$150 million; that's a lot of bottles sold. At 82 he may want to get a wriggle on mind you.

Coppola, who directed The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Bram Stoker's Dracula ... ... and, uhm. Jack.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this before (caveat that it’s US-centric so mightn’t apply here):

Basically it means the film will never be released in a home format, at least if they stick by this announcement. Now I’m a big Apichatpong Weerasethakul fan, and think his films are best seen in a cinema - indeed, think a lot of his recent work has been for museums, so it makes sense in that context. I like the idea of this as a rare spectacle. But conflicted on this as there’s obviously big access and archiving issues when it comes to purposefully restricting access to any given film. Very curious to see if this’ll be the case internationally.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,694 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

So essentially the film will only exist in the memory of those who have seen it. It's a fascinating idea.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 35,941 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Eh; it's a cute idea but does little to counter the idea that art house cinema sets itself as intentionally impenetrable or withholding for the common film enthusiast; a bit high on its own supply. I've never seen a film by this director but reading that kind of gimmicky, affected scheduling doesn't make me go ooooh, what's this? This kind of cinema should be trying to find as large an audience as possible, not making a game of its release.

Oh god; Aisling Bea's "English" accent is quite ... something. It's usually British actors mangling Irish accents, not the other way around.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,858 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Trying to figure out if it's the bad Kevin impression or just the English accent but the kid doesn't seem right. Seems very forced like they're trying to reuse the original dialogue without using the actual dialogue. Like "you can copy my homework but change it a bit"

You can also see there's a lot of VFX at play (a character runs into a snow man) and it looks poor and obviously fake.

Surely Bea, Delaney, and Kemper are better than this? Netflix must be paying good money.
