Will Hive active heating & hot water thermostat work with external boiler?

    Thermostat.jpeg

Probably a noob question, which is as per the title: Will Hive active heating & hot water thermostat work with external boiler?

My setup is as per the picture above, external tank, boiler and what I will call the thermostat.

I also have an on/off/timer switch inside. I also have a on/off hot water tank switch next to the hot press.

The Hive active heating & hot water contains:

    - Hive Active Heating Thermostat

    - Hive Hub

    - Hive Receiver

Assuming the Thermostat 'box', that is the box that has the knob to control the temperature goes on the wall & the Hub sits next to the router, am I right to assume that the Receiver will be sat next to thermostat sitting above the double socket, in the picture above? Will it replace that thermostat? Do I need any other kit?

Then, next question about the hot water - how does this work?!

I know they're basic questions but I don't want to order this if it won't work.

I am assuming my WiFi reaches the above location.

    Thanks in advance.

No, everything you see in that picture does not change. The stat there is for frost protection.

Hive receiver replaces your INSIDE timer, and links to the INSIDE battery/wireless Hive Stat you place in a proper location in the house (read the manual)

The Hub you are correct, plus into your internet router.

If I could ask one more question...

The above timer is what the inside switch looks like. I don't have any way to adjust the temperature. (I thought the thermostat being outside was a bit strange so thanks for clearing that up!)

Will the Hive Receiver simply replace the above timer and then allow me to adjust the temperature or do I have to get a dedicated thermostat?

I know it's noob stuff and I did try to find out the answer to no avail so I do appreciate the response.

Just to add - the timer above is downstairs in the house. The hot water tank is upstairs and has a simple switch outside the hot press.

You will get a thermostat which you can wall mount or put on a stand , it will connect via wireless

I've a hive setup 2 zones and water for a few years . It's super

I did a bit more reading and took a few pictures posted below, in the hope of confirming two main things - which are as follows:

    1) I currently have no way to adjust the temperature in the house; the heat is either on or off. If I get the Hive System can I replace the timer and will I then have the ability to adjust the temperature?

    2) If I get the The Hive active heating & hot water I will be able to turn the immersion on or off using the Hive?

I know these seem like basic questions so I really appreciate any help.

does your system have separate hot water and rads today ? Can you just heat hot water if you want to ?

that whole boiler is in a right mess hose in a bad state

and the position and support on the tank are not good either

I can heat the water without turning on the central heat (external oil burner). It seems to be completely stand alone. I assumed that given the house was built ~2002 that a more modern system would be in place. This leads me to believe that I won't be able to use the hot water feature on the Hive, which is what I really wanted it for. My questions above have been more in hope than expectation. I also think that I could use the Nest thermostat for the central heat but open to correction on that.

I have zero knowledge on all things plumbing; I'd give most other 'DIY' jobs a go but not plumbing. I completely take your word that the whole thing is a mess. It certainly doesn't look good to the untrained eye. What would you recommend that I get sorted? You mentioned the hose - is this a big (read: expensive) job?

a good service eng would tidy the whole lot up for maybe approx 150ish

hose inc with a full service

make sure he has a flugas analyser so you get a print out of emissions on completion

tank would be advisable on inspection

After seeing the above comments I went to have another look at the boiler. I don't know what I wanted to achieve but I noticed what I think is a Firebird Dual Thermostat Heatpac D5. Doing some summary 'research' I noticed this is "suitable for immersions". I'm now more confused than ever. Does this mean that the boiler also heats the hot water? If so, could it heat just the hot water? And if the answer to both of those questions was yes, could the Hive heating and hot water work?

I know these are simplistic questions but I simply don't know how to find out the answers.

Alternatively, if there is a plumber who could do a service, answer those questions, and install a Hive, I'd like to give the work (not that they need it I know) to someone on Boards. The house is in Longford. Please DM me. Please!

the thermostat you refer to just controls the on/off temp of the boiler

it has no bearing on how the system is zoned or not this is what would allow you to heat hot water or rads only
