Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Seamie shot level par for his opening round. A solid start, but gonna need to shoot at least 3 or 4 under tomorrow

  • Registered Users Posts: 404 ✭✭Innish_Rebel

Double bogeyed his final hole which was a pity - agreed probably needs to shoot 3 to 4 under to make cut today...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

Seamus needs to birdie the 18th make the cut. He holed a great birdie putt from 25 feet on 16. A birdie on the last gets him in for the weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,960 ✭✭✭blackwhite

Bogies it - but as it happened the cut line moved up to -5 so even a birdie wouldn’t have been enough in the end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,427 ✭✭✭dublin49

I jinked him talkin about his par 5s in rd 1,only level yesterday for par 5's and bogey from middle of fairway on par 5 11th probably killed his momentum and stopped him making the cut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Good round for Seamus today -5, hopefully the beginning of a good week. Going to be a low scoring shootout but they seem to suit him well enough

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

Good start for him, hopefully he goes low tomorrow. He’s basing himself in Vegas for the time being so hopefully a nice winners cheque Sunday evening will give him a few bob to play the slots on his days off.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

A bogey free 68 for Seamus yesterday to leave him t-17 and 6 off the lead going into the weekend. He started in the afternoon so had the toughest of the conditions according to sky sports so a bogey free round was pretty good.

I think he only missed one fairway and I think hit 16/18 greens which is some going. His putting was a little cold but he’s driving and iron play is really hot over the first two days. He would really be a factor if he got it to -10 but even still he has a chance at -8. He’ll need a 65 minimum this evening and he’ll know that but he’s well capable of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Fair play to him, I'd say he's more comfortable out there now than he's ever been. A top 10 would be a great start to the season and keep the confidence high.

Obviously love a win, but a top 10 would be fantastic, it's a pretty good field.

Seamus just made a brilliant eagle on the 9th and is -4 for today and -14 for the tournament.

Just inside the top 10 at the moment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

His putter was stone cold yesterday. He missed a crazy amount of putts from inside 12 feet. If three or four of them had dropped he’d have been right in the mix today. Great showing so far, a top 5 finish would be a great result after a disappointing missed cut last week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 347 ✭✭Scrabbel

Even though the back 9 has been a bit flat, a sure sign of where he’s got to is that another solid Top 20 is a little disappointing,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,914 ✭✭✭Rigor Mortis

Good progress. He has been getting steadily better as he returns after a few weeks off. Top 25 is a good result in week 2

I was looking at his ranking this morning to see if he had jumped a place or two which was confirmed above. At the start of the year, he was 406th. Then he missed 4 cuts in the first 5 events before stretching out to 463rd. From that point, we know the rest of the story. Only 1 missed cut since and this was after he took a break from the tour to return home following his breakthrough win. A fantastic year in fairness and he still has a few events left to play, could well jump another 10 spots.

    Is power playing this week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,945 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Don't think so, it's a limited field event, the top 60 from the Fed Ex Cup rankings plus some others exemptions.

Edit: just looked it up, he was third alternate to play

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,967 ✭✭✭RoadRunner

Lol, I thought we'd seen the days of him waiting on the sidelines as a third alt were behind us!

    This is a wheelbarrow event.

Only the top.boys get into these. Everyone goes home with cash, so dont forget your wheelbarrow to bring it home

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,967 ✭✭✭RoadRunner

It'd be interesting to know the readjusted order of this with regard to career earnings. Reaching top 100 in the world now is probably just as financially lucrative as breaking the top 10 in the world in the previous generations world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,914 ✭✭✭Rigor Mortis

    Not playing this week either.

Yes, he would have been eligible to play this week. Big money tournament with a limited field. I wonder was it the fact that it’s in Japan that made him decide to give it a miss?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭OEP

He's also never played the course so maybe he feels he'll have a better shot in the next for tournaments where he probably knows the courses

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,097 ✭✭✭billy3sheets

Going well enough in Bermuda. -2 after 12. Getting lots of TV coverage too. Playing with McDowell and Fritelli.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,840 ✭✭✭Panrich

He's been playing very well tee to green but the putts have not dropped for the past few holes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,097 ✭✭✭billy3sheets

They're not dropping for most of the field either. Seamus has scrambled well and made the difficult putts he needed to. Best thing is to eliminate the putts altogether and go straight in, like Reed and a few others 😃 - been some great chip-ins.

Great chance for Seamus this week. This was supposed to be an opposite field event with the HSBC, but it's been elevated to full field status with the cancellation of the HSBC. It now carries full FedEx points and an invitation to the Masters for the winner.

Although it's been upgraded the field hasn't really with pretty much none of the WGC qualified guys adding it to their schedule. Seamus has made a good start and a win here will boost him up another step of the ladder pretty quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,427 ✭✭✭dublin49

Seamus going well today, more than likely too late but 4 under thru 11 is good going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,143 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

    -5 through 13 and -11 overall ... currently tied 8th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,427 ✭✭✭dublin49

bogey rules out slight chance of win but few more birdies and top 5 in the offing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,143 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

2 bogeys in 3 holes had hurt his chances of a high finish now...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭OEP

Par 3s are killing him this week, +5 for them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭OEP

I didn't realise the weather is nuts there, perhaps that wasn't a bad bogey!

  • Registered Users Posts: 699 ✭✭✭bamayang

Considering how recently he confirmed his tour status. He is playing at a very consistent level, can’t wait to see him in some high level fields and see where he is. If he keeps making cuts, he won’t be long getting down under 100 world rannking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

Very good final round for Seamus today, when the weather got bad he dropped two shots but got one back on the last. Banked $130k and got some fedex and world ranking points which will do him the world of good.

I’m telling you all now, if he gets his confidence up with the putter then he’ll win a big event. He has every shot in the book and mentally he’s getting stronger. I think he was +5 for the par 3s this week and finished 5 shots off the leader. Good showing and a good boost to his confidence that even when not on his A game he’s featuring and posting strong finishes.

It's a good sign when we're disappointed in Seamus finishing with a top 20. Hoping the putter gets hot for a while.

On a side note here is the story of the lad who was last in the field on something like +39

Seamus is back into the top 100 in this week's rankings. But only just - his second week at number 100 having been at 105 last week.

  • Registered Users Posts: 710 ✭✭✭Lad GAGA

That story really brings it home, any day on a golf course no matter how your playing is a good day. Brilliant that he got that invite and that his family will forever have that memory to look back on.

Really looking forward to seeing how Seamus gets on this season, now that the pressure is off and his confidence should be pretty high he will hopefully have some good results/high placed finishes. Hope Motivator is right about a big win being round the corner.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

Good opening round from Seamus in Mexico today. Finished -3 which is a good bit back from Wolff who shot the lights out but a good solid round and yet another round under par.

Seamus is out late tomorrow which seems to suit him so he’ll have a very good score to aim at by the time he gets out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,097 ✭✭✭billy3sheets

Made the cut again comfortably on -7 in the Myakoba and is tied for 21st. Here's hoping he pushes on over the weekend.

3 under tru 7 ,up to sixth ,hopefully can hold it together and get in the mix tomorrow.

And another one at 8th, up to T3. He really is showing fantastic consistency since April. Hope he can really tear the back 9 apart and be right up there for tomorrow.

One off the lead now. Great start today.

Tearing myself away from Golf's Greatest Holes on Sky to keep up with Seamus' scoring online.

I see he’s playing with Niemann who’s -7 for the day and leading at -14. Hope that target keeps him on his toes.
