Tanak out on stage 4. Driver error.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,466 ✭✭✭h3000

Well Rally Estonia is off to another dramatic start. Tanak out for the day after a puncture then a small off. Neuville dropped some time after a puncture.

Breen was leading after SS3 but has dropped to second after SS4 I would imagine he would get some time back on SS4 though as a marshal waved an orange bib at Craig which Craig understandably thought was a red flag and completely backed off. He was getting back closer to Rovanpera's time before that.

EDIT: I didn't see your post jelutong. I took too long trying to type my one out, I'm supposed to be working.

Craig and Paul doing well. Second overnight 8.5 behind Kalle. Fingers crossed for them.

Kalle takes the win and Craig & Paul finish a very impressive second. I’d love to see them get a full year in the car.

Lukyanuk had an interesting finish to the rally. Still finishes fastest RC2 car overall. He’s another man who deserves a few goes in a WRC car.

It died with 9 years Loebs of dominance, the loss of TV rights and the fact that they used to run cars that your average young male viewer wanted to drive, EVOs Imprezas Corollas. Dont see many young lads drooling over i20s and Fabias these days.

Great event for Craig and Paul. Well in the shop window for a full drive next year but with the current situation thats far from a done deal.

If Hyundai aren't willing then possibly M-Sport may bite. At this stage you'd wonder is a part program with Hyundai good enough if he gets offered a full season with M-Sport. Could be a tough call.

Ideally a full season with Hyundai but Sordo will probably still be a good option for some rallies Craig isnt as quick on.

Hopefully they will get something. Hyundai have a lot of money behind them which is always important. M-Sport though tend to be very quick out of the box with new car regs. I wonder Is there an option of a part time seat at Toyota rotating with Ogier?

Looks like Lappi has that Toyota rotating seat with Ogier in his hands.

Well nothing confirmed yet but that's the vibe from Latvala and the media. Makes sense in a lot of ways to be fair

Ypres has kicked off. Craig is doing very well so far (please don't jinx this). 2 out of 3 stage wins and leader overall so far. Fingers crossed for Craig and Paul 🤞

A great 2nd place finish for Breen and Nagle again. He really drove well and was pushing Neuville hard for the win in Ypres. Team orders recommendations suggested they back off and bring home the one two as early as Friday evening.

Hope the team recommendation translate's to a better contect next year

Hopefully so. I think Craig and Paul have taken a proper step up in their performances. Mads was saying he has heard rumours that Craig is sorted for next year. If it’s the case and where remains to be seen.

Breen and MRF seem to have split. Breen in the i20 WRC for Finland too though. I wonder is the M-Sport move on?

After Thierrys retirement, I think Craig and Paul will play the team game tomorrow, regardless of what team they are with next year.

    Awesome 😄

If you don’t have time to watch it. Breen and Nagle have a two year deal with M-Sport.

Brilliant news for Craig & Paul - 2 year deal with M-Sport announced:

Craig Breen and co-driver Paul Nagle will lead M-Sport Ford into the FIA World Rally Championship’s hybrid era in 2022 after signing a two-year contract with the British-based team.

The deal marks the biggest step in Breen’s career. He will drive the new Ford Puma WRC Rally1 on all 13 rounds next year – the first time the Irishman has been handed a full WRC campaign following part-programmes with Hyundai and Citroën in recent seasons.

The Irishman is in the form of his life, claiming consecutive podium finishes in Estonia, Belgium and, last weekend, in Finland in a Hyundai i20 World Rally Car. He lies sixth in the drivers’ standings despite tackling only half the 10 rounds...continues here

Congrats to Craig and Paul, a milestone achievement indeed.

Has anyone from the Republic ever held a full-time works WRC (previously ICM) drive before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭Oops!

No, no drivers anyway... Plenty of Co-drivers. Breen has been a full time driver all his life, Alot of karting done up to 2006 when he began co-driving and if i remember correctly his first day in the drivers seat was in a hired Civic at the Stonethrower's rally 2007.

Neuville had a small 😲 off during testing. Both he and Wydaeghe walked away.
