Can't launch Android Auto

I plug my Moto G7 into USB port in car. Android Auto starts setup on phone. I click Get Started and the app closes down.

It works on another G7.

I think the problem is to do with permissions. I use the phone only for call, texts and browsing and to keep things as simple as possible I have disabled a bunch of stuff and denied lots of permissions. Trying to get this working, I enabled everything I could see and Android Auto has all the permissions it has set for itself but it's still not working.

I used Reset App Preferences in settings, no joy.

Don't want to do s factory reset.

Anybody have any ideas what else I might try?

I would look to see what the cars own settings are.Make sure there is no conflict with your phone.Are there too any phones set up to operate in the car.Same AA version on both phones? I would expect the car set up to ask your phone for any permissions needed to complete pairing.

Are both your and the other G7 using their default phone names? Could be a conflict if they are, worth changing yours to something else like 'Heighway61's Mobile' and trying again.

Finally... updating Google Play Services did the trick.

And it's gone again. This time it's not working with any of the three phones so must be the car.

Think I'll torch it.

Have similar issues on a regular basis. Clearing cache seems to fix it.

Thanks, but that was the first thing I tried.

Probably not relevant to this problem but on my wife's phone Android Auto is an app, on mine it's only accessible via settings. Both version numbers are the same.

Try downloading the Apk and install it and see if you can launch it as and when needed.

Gave permission to install from this source then install starts but bombs out saying "not installed".

Edit, got an earlier version of 7 installed. No joy.

Must be the car, which would be a bigger issue. Was working with three phones, 2 x G7 and G9 then just stopped. Can charge and play music via USB.

i had issue in a rental, used an anker cable and it didnt like it, error that no compatible usb device connected. swapped to a samsung usb a to c and worked then
