Surprised this isn't getting more air time, senior retired Guard has been arrested and 3 others have had their houses raised which resulted in finds of cannabis and cash.

You are correct there, bringing in an outsider like him was a masterstroke. Some of those who criticised the appointment must be cringing at the way he has gone about reform and change.

I'm open to correction here but it's my understanding that Ireland had little to no part to play in the recent Encrochat bust. Operation Ironside yielded a huge amount of Intel and arrests around the world yet Ireland, with one of Europe's largest drug crime families, had no arrests on foot of the operation. There were apparently drug consignment seizures but no people arrested.

Don't get me wrong, there's corruption in all police forces because there's people involved in police forces but it struck me as odd the Irish police force, on the face of it, looked as though they weren't invited to the dance. Or didn't accept the invite.

Det. Supt. Fox's suicide in Ballymun said a lot by saying nothing.

He is excellent but you really have to wonder how bloody corrupt the Gardai for many many years. We probably have no idea how bad it was.

Only for McCabe they would probably be worse than ever before. And successive governments stood idly by while the Gardai tried to destroy him.

I would have said his unsuitability would have been because of the Glenannne gang, and the controversy he caused to the victims families, but those examples you gave are a close second nonetheless.

So far what I have seen he is doing an excellent job as he hasn't come up through the Gardai and doesn't "owe" anyone. Good appointment and hopefully this continues

They remembered what happened Michael MCDowell. Failed to get re-elected while party leader, Tanaiste and Minister for Justice. One of the things he had tried to focus on was reform of An Gardai Siochanna.

Pardon my ignorance, but given this is (as far as I know) unprecedented, is the granted bail thing considering the gangland connections wise? Possibly a lot of nervous people now who may want to make sure he doesn't cooperate too much.

This is potentially massive, lord only knows how deep this goes into AGS, a force which I very much traditionally admired may I add.

If you Google that named retired superintendent (as named by the RTE report) there is a story in the Indo about a party in the Aviva for a retiring superintendent, with the same name, who was aged 50 in 2010.

There's no suggestion that it happened after he left AGS. When do you think this was happening? Do you think he retired from the Gardaí to dedicate all of his time to being a drug dealer??
