Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Good to see the Irish lads trying to get into the breakaway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,545 ✭✭✭at1withmyself

Rory Townsend made the break of the day, 8 of them with a small gap which looks like it could be the one.

Victor Campenaerts wearing glasses for once. Can't remember the last time I saw him wear any.

All the pressure on Wout, but look at the strength in the danish and slovenian teams, as well as Italy. Also, the question of Evanepoel and if he goes off-script is intriguing...gonna be an interesting few hours!

Evenepoel and Cort on the attack, splits already, Jesus theres 170km to go!

This is a tasty group trying to go up the road.

This is great, Evenapoel arguing with everyone including DeClerq

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,506 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Townsend still showing near the front.

Havent seen either of the other 2 Irish lads

So how many people have you heard pronounce it Leuve? Just one. Rob Hatch.

Magnificent racing so far. If you ever had Notions of duking it out with Pro Cyclists, this the one that will put you in your box.

Cant wait til they get out of the city to the countryside loop again, its going to explode

    Tim DeClercq is The Terminator

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,506 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Apparently 2 of the Irish lads have dropped out according to PCS, I'm guessing it's Eddie Dunbar that's left.

Haven't seen him at all today though.

Kwiatkowski riding a Pinarello with discs.

Also, I didn't know that the race started in 'Antwerpaa' earlier. Amazing.

As for the race, it's amazing stuff. How many will make it to the final lap? And we spotted Kristoff there a few km ago. Now if it started lashing rain now, he would be my man

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,826 ✭✭✭✭dahat

This has been an enthralling race all day, well worth couch time for the day.

    Crowds look amazing.

I have to say it's the racing that makes a course, I enjoyed the racing over the week but thought the course wasn't all that. Today it's a completely different story.

What race. Epic stuff so far all day

I know I'll jinx it but it's great to see a crowd enjoy a race without being dumb cnt mankini wearing hazards that the GTs attract

What happened to Morhoric, looked like either he completely blew or had gear problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,506 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

    Go on Lulu!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,105 ✭✭✭G1032

Allez Ala. Go on. Hope he holds on now. What a legend.

Nearly 30 seconds now, he's home and hosed now. Chapeau.

After looking so strong all day, bit of a disaster for the Belgians

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

What a race and what a champion. He's the type of guy that does that jersey proud.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,105 ✭✭✭G1032

Remco won't be happy after that. All he did for them all day...

And MvdP, class and all as he is, would want a kick up the @rse. If WvA stopped for a cup of coffee, MvdP would stop with him. He waited and waited and didn't follow because WvA didn't / couldn't. Nuts.

Magnificent from Julian! What a legend!

Gutted for Stuyven not to get a medal in his home town.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,012 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

I agree with Bradley surprisingly. Remco's sit up moment was a real look at me being the hero bit. He may have had more.

Loads of people hate him. I think if people can't enjoy that cycling might not be for them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,545 ✭✭✭at1withmyself

Well after putting in a heroic ride what was his sit up moment supposed to look like. The kid buried himself for his leader today.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,012 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

I'm saying I agree with Bradley's theory that he may not have been empty. It was a well timed moment in front of the crowds. Maybe not but ultimately it's not his fault. I think he should have been saved for plan b.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

World Champs are in Australia next year. Hopefully they get it stripped if they are still acting the **** over Covid. Then just have it Flanders again.

I hope the UCI don't get like Formula 1 and get so obsessed about bringing it around the world whilst forgetting the heartland of cycling. The odd time, yes. Rwanda looks like it will be decent. But Arabian peninsula type races in front of a blindman and a camel aint a good watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,506 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Rwanda should be grand. At least they have a semblance of a cycling culture/history there, and have interesting terrain. Qatar was a joke.

If it ever quietens down in Eritrea/Ethiopia that would be a great spot for a WC - the mountain goats would be all over it

Well deserved win, called it yesterday on our club page, most lads went for the Belgians. Just had a sneaky feeling , great tactics at the end - try, try and try again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,545 ✭✭✭at1withmyself

I feel sorry for Remco, I'd say if he used his left hand to take a swig of his bottle instead of his right then people would be critical of him. I was glad when Brian corrected Hatch who also had a go at Remco for no reason but to accuse the lad of pulling up in front of the crowd is really petty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,452 ✭✭✭✭ednwireland

not impressed with fans booing. great ride from alaphillipe though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,027 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Going for the Belgians is like going for Movistar 😂

Im delighted as my favourite rider won, one of the most exciting teams on the day won and I was getting really worried about all the bunch sprint talk so glad that never happened

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,269 ✭✭✭CantGetNoSleep

Is there any longer highlights of this on Eurosport app / later today?

I was in the crowd in Leuven so didn't catch a lot, was shocked when I saw JA's lead on the last lap.

Not sure how much pro cyclists can drown out everything that is happening around them but cannot imagine the pressure on WVA today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,027 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Hour highlights at 7pm UTC+1 but I think you just wanted to point out how jammy you are to get to go to the race 😆

I did like the slow down gestures being given to non Belgian riders this week, harmless bit of fun. The booing though has no place in any sport.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,027 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Regardless of your allegiance that performance deserves a lot more respect than that booing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,350 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

I thought the booing was more pantomime than anything else but whoever chucked the beer at Ala as he crossed the line was bang out of order.
