Looks like Harrington has his picks in mind and is sticking with them anyway. Can't be confident in the morning session getting too much out of it, but hoe to be proven wrong.

Not much Harrington can do, players just aren't good enough o win on US soil. If they were all in good form they'd have half a chance.

Bang out of form is one thing but team selection is another.

Fleetwood unbeaten in Ryder cup on Friday and Saturday but he can sit it out. Westwood and Fitzpatrick go again.

Just seems odd. I’d nearly rather he ripped up his plans and went something something like Poulter and Wiesberger. I think Poulter would be delighted in the role

fleetwood and whoever he wants. Hovland play whoever he feels he wants to play with.

    Leave the Spanish guys alone.

To the post saying they’ve 3 year to prepare for his to play 5 rounds in 3 days. Let’s be honest Ryder cup is not something these players base their season around. No matter how much sky like to think they do.

    Just seems all odd.

Agree on Fleetwood in and Westy out, Tommy much more suited to the format, a shake up on top of "resting" Rory was required

European players play on pga tour. Like courses set up. These players play same course week in week out. McGinley likes to keep telling us about courses and weather like it was in his day were we had European based players.

Think Fleetwood and Poulter can consider themselves unlucky not to be out there in the Foursomes. Why pick a guy as your captains pick and then not pick him? From the limited, brutal coverage that we saw Poulter kept the ship afloat yesterday morning and Fleetwood was pretty good against a really good US combination. If he had of got those 2 short putts he would have had an unbelievable round. Not sure how Fitzpatrick and Westwood get to go again. Harrington comes across as very defensive in his comments/analysis, why can he just not admit that some of his guys didn't play their best (which everyone can see)? Instead he says he was very happy with his team, which is pure sxxx.

This exactly. All the plans in the world won’t turn some of our team into players capable of beating that US side on that course. Just look at the horsepower right through their team, DJ, JT, Morikowa, Koepka, Finau etc etc. Men against boys unfortunately. Hard to see anything but 9:3 by lunchtime tomorrow.

you obviously didnt watch a single minute of the golf yesterday if you thought rory should be back out there again

Think Europe will do well to reach 10. What I saw yesterday evening the US lads were all playing at a much higher level. Better players and playing well. Scheffler was about the only average performer. But even at the he wasn't close to McIlroy levels of poor.

That's the great thing about the Ryder Cup. There are 12 points to be won tomorrow.

I think it's all over bar the shouting(literally). Combination of weak European pairings, some poor European players and to be fair some great individual USA performances(Finau in particular). Wouldnt be surprised if Harrington had his line up for Sunday picked weeks ago which means putting out players who haven't been performing well so far at the start and then USA will secure the 14.5 points in record time. Hope I'm wrong and there is a miraculous European comeback today.

On the plus side if the USA do well in the foursomes this morning we may see Stricker throw caution to the wind and put Brooks and Bryson out together in the afternoon, just to bring some excitement to proceedings.

I’d have put Tommy out instead of Lee too. Poulter instead of Casey.

People seem to be forgetting that Nicklaus-Jacklin award is still all to play for, maybe paddy focusing more on that with todays picks? Irtll be something no European captain has guided his team to before

And they haven't been performing the past few years on the same Tour. So not sure what you are trying to dispute with my post. European players don't perform on US style courses, whether they are based in the US or Europe.

Now there is a chance the players hit form this morning and the momentum takes them to a famous victory, but almost no fans to support them and courses set up where most of them don't seem to perform week in and out, it will be ugly.

So the rousing last words of his team talk will be about conceding not-very-short putts...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 603 ✭✭✭CSWS101

I could get behind the first 3 pairings but it’s the Westwood/Fitzy one that I just cannot understand running them again. Fleetwood played some lovely shots yesterday, on another day those putts drop. At least Lowry showed a bit of energy. If the states get off to a hot start it will be game over quickly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,776 ✭✭✭Xander10

Looking back the USA holed some amount of putts, even Finau the choker, couldn't miss. Need that to change.

A bit underwhelmed again with foresomes pairings. You pick wild cards on merit and form and 2 of them are sitting it out while Lee Westwood whose form and putting is horrendous is starting. I will be glad to be proved wrong.

Found last night tedious and over long with shocking slow play. I found the Solheim Cup a breath of fresh air in comparison.

It's easy in retrospect, but this is a challenge and course that would've suited Noren I think. You have to make birdies in the Ryder Cup especially when course set-up favours lower scoring.

Does look like no country for old men out there and Europe look just too old and not dynamic enough. Would've like to have seen Hatton and Fleetwood together. Quite like Hovland and Wiesberger together as at least it's somewhat fresh and new. They need some energy and youthful confidence out there. Rory used to provide this, but is sadly lacking any real confidence currently.

Rory is a guy I'd always put out first, he needs to be the centre of attention and trusted to be the guy who sets the tone, I think he gets lost and loses energy when he's in the pack. As for Rahm, he's the best golfer in the world and rock solid, he can go out anywhere and with anyone. I'd have him anchoring the sessions, as if it's going wrong in front, he can still dig in and get something going.

Solheim Cup was a great watch but it's not the slow play that's turning this into poor viewing. It's the fact that there's no real contest. Very easy 3-1 wins for the US yesterday and you can't see that changing a whole pile today.

Europe need to get 5 out of 8 points today to garner some interest really. The contest could be over by the first session today.

The American coverage is agog that Rory isn't playing. Can't understand it at all and are already sharpening the knives for Padraig.

Arguably the world's most popular player (their words, but I agree) and he's not even playing.

Personally I'd be telling Rory he's the best player in the world and I'm putting you out first to prove it. Maybe Padraig and himself have spoken and his confidence is really in the toilet and he's protecting him a bit. It's possible but I don't believe it, Rory has supreme confidence in his ability and nearly always comes back from poor play with great play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,048 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

I know they probably think at the end of the day his putting cost us. But I'd still be sticking Fleetwood in versus at least 3 of the players picked.

Tommy is well rested at this point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,048 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    I do get you big.

But it was an absolutely shocking day yesterday by Rory , he cost us 2 points .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,054 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

nearly always comes back from poor play with great play.

Well yeah there is at least a chance he will come up with the goods. Whereas Westwood & Fitzpatrick could play the best rounds they are capable of right now and still get nowhere near Soufflay and Cantlay

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,324 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

It's a hard one no doubt, but with your ass in the bacon slicer so to speak, I'd be trusting Rory to pull it out over Casey, Westwood and numerous others in team Europe.

If it was only Rory who stunk the place out fair enough and you're dropping him for inform guys, but he's been dropped for guys in equivalent if not worse form.

Edit: there's an upside and performance possibility with Rory that just doesn't exist with the other guys

Surprised Finau not out this morning in the foursomes after the way he was hitting the ball yesterday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,474 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

How is Fitz and Westy paired together again? That is a guaranteed point to the US! Fleetwood not picked with anyone.......
