I really don't think most of our people realize just how incredibly fortunate we are to live on this island, and have none of these natural disasters to worry about. This is why I never moan about a bit of rain.

According to some article in the Irish Times before, the South of the country would be fcuked, but you're talking about an extreme eruption where the island slides into the ocean causing some mega Tsunami. Dont think we're looking at that from media coverage at the moment.

It'll be the entire south coast and a decent portion of the west. Carraigtoohill or Croagh Patrick for the best and safest views.

I had heard of the theory before and assumed that Teide, being nearly 2,000m taller, was the one that had potential for much more destruction.

What is the effect (or might be) of this eruption on the air quality? Might there be a concern with flying and particles getting into engines... such as grounded flights 11 yrs ago with the icelandic Volcano that affected Europe. When Mt Etna in Sicily spews forth the air in nearby town is nasty... is it sulphur smell? thinking of the holidaymakers in the nearby islands.
