Yeah, I just took it as Murph not wanting to give any time to what Brolly was saying.

Ken has got a bit irritating lately.

Last year he bitched constantly about VAR being used incessantly, this year he's complaining about the game being let go a bit more.

That Dougal guys e-mail was bang on the money and Ken was such a spanner in his reply to it.

Big long time fan of the man and it's still very entertaining to hear him rant, but, honestly, over the last couple of weeks he's began to bore me and that's the first time in fifteen years I can say that.

I think he's realising that himself. Laughing away at his self disgust today.

Im not sure there's anyone in the media who has to offer regular opinions that doesn't just run out of track. It's preposterous that one person can come up with 1-3 fresh takes per week.

Ken’s mental unraveling seems to have coincided with Ronaldo signing with Manchester United… coincidence ?

I hope his snorting/pig noise today is now the default hot key

If Ken is watching the Man Utd game we might be getting an emergency “vindication” podcast

That was brilliantly tacked onto the end today. Well done Mark.

“A bunch of reactionary morons who have decided well no what people want to see is violence and broken legs. And so ok, well that’s what we’re going to see. Of course that’s not what we’re going to see, they will now tighten it up. Because ultimately they can’t afford…what if the next person this happened to was Ronaldo?”

It was a shocking injury and horrible to see. Very unfortunate too though. Monday football pod one of the worst I can remember. Actually hard to stick with it and it’s just half an hour.

Just listened back to Monday's GAA pod. I thought it was odd that not once was Covid mentioned. Surely the fact that Tyrone were so riddled with Covid that they had to pull out of the championship only to get a week extra leading to them being absolutely flying in the semi and still roaring fit by the final was worth a bit of discussion, or even a nod?

Also, Paul Flynn's main focus seems to be to link the topic back to what they did when he played for Dublin. Not sure I'd consider him one of the best, like Eoin says.

"After the news Struijk’s suspension would stand, Elliott replied to a post on Sky Sports’ Instagram account by writing: “Sorry about this Pascal. I think it’s wrong. But it’ll soon blow over brother and you’ll be back in no time smashing it again. Keep positive.”"

So Elliot himself thinks there was no malice in the tackle, I wonder what Ken thinks...

Well, let's hope we never find out. I don't think I could handle listening to him speak about that again. Actually couldn't believe it when he started going on about it again yesterday. So incredibly dull.

The lads really should've corrected Caitlyn Thompson when she kept insinuating that Radacanu's victory was one for Irish people.

We were verging into "it's always tough to play any British side" territory.

I'd say they avoided the covid subject as it was done to death in the build up to and the aftermath of the semi final. I would be a big GAA fan, really wanted Mayo to do it, but would have had no interest in the review of the final bringing covid into it again. It will make for a very interesting sidenote in any 30for30 style doc on the championship in years to come though!

In fairness to Flynn, he was one of the best players on the best team of all time. Do you mean you think he's not one of the best pundits or players?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,706 ✭✭✭cmac2009

Very strange. Perhaps they didn't want to embarrass her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,314 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Best pundits... He's not great, unless he's allowing Oisin test strips off him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,851 ✭✭✭Raoul

Hmm...did Caitlyn mean happy for you guys that it was free to air? Or happy for you guys because you are British. I'll give her the benefit of doubt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,590 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

What does malice have to do with anything? You don't need malice to commit a bad tackle, you just need to commit a bad tackle. I don't think anyone at any point - ken included - thought there was malice in it. But he jumped into a tackle, from behind, for which you can't be too annoyed about a red card. Probably should have been yellow under more normal circumstances, but it's easy enough to see why a ref knocks it up a notch when a fella's foot is hanging backwards after it.

Ken does sound like he needs a holiday at this stage. Last season was endless sniping and rants about Jose and VAR, this season sounds like it'll be Ronaldo, Kenny keeping his job no matter what result we get and free flow/GBH enabling refs. I only just resubbed after getting a bit fed up with the Euros coverage & was hoping things had changed since, which it hasn't by the sounds of things. Whole thing is a bit stale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,314 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

She said it enough that it was obvious she thought she was happy for us because in her mind irish and British are the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,851 ✭✭✭Raoul

Yeah. At that point I had just heard her say it the first time. She said it once or twice afterwards.

I would really love if the lads said "why would we be happy?".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,151 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

Don't think it was that big a deal tbh.

Maybe she meant it one way or maybe she didn't, it was pretty ambiguous. I thought it was equally about her just being happy that people got to see it.

Agreed she was happy about the wider audience the channel 4 deal gave the event, but after that she specifically mentioned receiving texts from Ireland, Scotland and Britain about how ecstatic people were with the win, and followed on by saying "I'm so happy for you guys as you had a rough sporting summer". Seems a geography lesson is in order.

Fantastic listener audio bed at the end of today's pod...kudos to that listener!

    Let it flow!

Bob Mortimer on the pod today. Bit out of left field that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 989 ✭✭✭Dick Turnip

Bob Mortimer on today's show! This should be good!

Random guest is random. Looking forward to listening later on.

Fans might get something from it. I didn’t find him a hugely dialled in guest. A certain aloofness about him, he might not enjoy promo.

The Athletico Mince Second Captains crossover the world has been waiting for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,804 ✭✭✭✭siblers

I think at the start it was a bit dialled in but as it went on he seemed to get more into it, I really enjoyed it. Interesting to have a more serious side of Bob

He was coming into by the end but overall it wasn’t up to much
