Dexys touring the UK with a 40th anniversary re-engineering of how Too Rye Aye could have sounded

No Irish dates yet, but would imagine they will come.

    https://www.aegpresents.co.uk/events/detail/dexys?uk_et_cid=AEG_ROCK_NL_100921_COPY&uk_et_rid=1_13010551296716336

Long time since I saw Dexy’s and despite the misfire of their Irish and soul record of a few years back, would love to see them again

Given that KR has always been the most quixotic of artists and his stage shows for One Day I’m Going to Soar were terrific, this promises to be interesting to say the least.

Wonder who's classed as a "superstar" these days? Neil Rogers or Garth Brooks..? https://twitter.com/VirginMediaNews/status/1437451002739785736?s=19

Cork PUC would welcome Garth for 10 nights, he wouldn't cause a big scene

Now we know why the Gaa wanted to move the All Ireland finals from September to August.

I had tickets for my family for the last time.

This time, unfortunately it's likely my mam would need a disability ticket which is something I've never bought before. How does it work?

If I want to accompany her, do I buy 2 disability tickets or 1 disability/1 regular? I assume it's a maximum of 1 person accompanying her? Are disability tickets actually any good in terms of where you're located? I'm very ignorant as to how it works - do they go on general sale also or what?

3 nights for Brooks in September 2022.

Possibly another set of gigs the following weekend.

Looks like Bruce might be back in April now too! https://twitter.com/gavreilly/status/1437492243716259844?s=19

Jesus the market will be saturated for 2022

Ticket prices won't be nice on the wallet either

Atm have 4 gigs for 2022 but there will be more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,055 ✭✭✭Stillill42

I think the vast majority of gigs will be priced as they normally would be. The Bruce's and, Gawd help us, Gareth Brooks of this world may extract a premium. You'll still have an almost constant stream of great gigs in the likes of Whelan's, the Grand Social etc. for very reasonable prices. It will be a year to remember on the gig front, no doubt.

No, their priced at what his fanbase are willing to pay, as evidenced by how many sold out shows he's doing.

Id say you will be looking at €90- €100 for standing for Bruce going by his last Croker show. Tbh at least with Bruce you are getting a min of 2.5 hour set of hits and imo you get your money's worth.

Talk now that Brooks might be looking for 5 gigs again.. Not sure there would still be demand for that many and think it's only usually 3 a year the council would grant. Could Bruce and/or Ed tour here without going to Croker and do a few nights in other GAA grounds like Pairc Ui Caoimh, Semple etc I wonder? https://amp.rte.ie/amp/1246670/?__twitter_impression=true

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,576 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Think there will be a demand for Brooks esp with the end of the pandemic and people wanting to get back to concerts. 2014 had a lot of travelling fans from the States etc as it was a comeback show and most of them would of definitely seen him live since then so that element could be gone this time round

Will he get the 5 concerts ? Hard to knw but if we see something like Brooks will be the only Croke Park shows then it might be possible. Its also possible he will be refused again and he will pull another strop and do 0 concerts in Ireland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,649 ✭✭✭✭Eod100

Yeah he could well sell that many but after last fiasco hard to tell would council back 5. Guess they could argue with no gigs with pandemic there is room for flexibility next year but not sure it's something they would get away with again if they do at least for another few years. Bit of a risk alright. Never any issues with Bruce or Ed so seems a bit of a risk if even more tickets could be sold. Would lose a lot of goodwill if this goes pear shaped again

Is he well known in the UK ?

Maybe he will do a few stadium/Arena shows there in 2022. Quick trip over adding another option for Irish fans

sold more records than Kanye or Bieber, so probably... the biggest concern is a return of line dancing and denim jackets

I’ve almost zero interest in Garth, but its an intriguing story with a history.

The easiest route here, is for him to do 3 in Croke Park, and then tour the country stadia, but if his stage setup is unsuitable, which maybe the case, then that's a big issue.

There is no doubt he is a huge draw, and will continue to be in 2022.

If the “Grab All Association”, make a 2nd attempt, at railroading 5 gigs through, then it may not end well. Lessons need to be learned, but they don’t seem to ever learn, from many past failures, and i always get the feeling, this organisation, see themselves, as being above everyone else. Here we are again, and no advance resident consultation, just like the last time.

Many forget the Grab All lads, were both the instigators and orchestrators of the 2017, fiasco, Aikens would have had to have gotten the go ahead from them, to keep on adding gigs, to the now infamous 2017 gigs.

I see 3 for Garth and 2 for Bruce(or AN other) at Croke Park, spread out by a few months, that much more likely to be achievable.

2 consecutive weekends at Croke Park would definitely be problematic.

Its Brooks himself who can't/won't get it into his head 'he can't play 5 gigs in Croke Park with the licencing laws etc and not the Governer of Dublin can't excuse him'

What needs to be done is get the licence before tickets go on sale but that may not be possible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,857 ✭✭✭✭hynesie08

Nope, can't do this again, the last go around broke me with the level of stupidity posted on boards, don't need those lemmings finding their way back here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,860 ✭✭✭fafy

Thats an incorrect, sequence of events, that was his reaction, “after the fact”.

Promoter, with the prior blessing and approval of the Grab All lads, kept on selling extra gigs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,889 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

What part of 'Croke Park only hosts 3 concerts per year' does Garth Brooks and his promoters seriously not understand??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,649 ✭✭✭✭Eod100

And even if that was their aim it seems silly to leak it before the 3 are granted. Wouldn't make the council inclined to give them 5 and not sure it's fair that 1 artist could get 5 when no other artist may not be able to play even if he only gets 3. He's hardly broke and had time between 2014 and before covid to come back over the years.

economies of scale, i imagine his show is big, shipping it all the way over the sea is a pretty penny, and the costs have gone up since brexit. Cant see a stadium tour like his fitting in too many places outside the pale, or getting the numbers to make it viable

Wonder if the guy who bought thousands of pink Stetsons, for the last time Brooks was meant play, still has them.
