You demean Varadkar every single time, (and it's a lot) you make him only about his sexuality, like the man is nothing else but a gay man. It's obsessive how you keep raising it and homophobic to use it because you can't win a political debate or defend his latest in a long line of gaffes. Give the man some respect and speak on his politics and actions like the rest of us.

I find it amusing he tried to get Kylie. I like Kylie. Now what?

Going to a festival on the day electric picnic was supposed to have originally been held after only meeting with the industry last week for the first time in 18 months is giving the two fingers to them and the public. Personal responsibility? That's for the little people.

He said he wouldn't follow the U.K. re-opening, keeps Ireiand's entertainment industry closed, then flies to the U.K. to a festival. It's obvious he's arrogant and couldn't give a damn.

Meanwhile he caught himself out lying about Zappone and he's under criminal investigation. I think he bears discussion. He's a human car crash.

zapone implies in her texts that she’d asked Paschal to lobby for her to arrange a meeting with a US envoy

Not heard anything yet, there is some amount of documentation to get through but surely his meeting Katherine has to come up

Will he make it to the Committee tomorrow you have to wonder.

Distracted with a work order here so can't keep up with who all has been dropped in it.

Coveney is toast surely now. He'll have to be sacrificed to save Leo.

Hard to believe it was Coveney who left himself so open here. Holed way below the waterline.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,365 ✭✭✭✭McMurphy

The new text exchanges show Ms Zappone contacted Mr Coveney on February 22 to say: “I know Paschal has spoken with you about my interest to get an intro with Sam Power about possibility of working with her at USAID on women and girls/gender equality issues and LGBTQ issues.”

    guessing it's this?

It's pretty bad tbf. I thought this would blow over (and it would have but for pesky Varadkar) but I think I'll have to eat humble pie.

Someone will have to be sacrificed.

Hasn't Harris done well, taken out the contender.

Did I hear the application/inquiry to pay her crossed Michael McGrath's desk in Public Expenditure?

The boys and girls of FG are playing dirty, very dirty indeed.

Coveney a goner I'd say. His claudication statements on the news now contradicted by the timeline of these latest messages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,143 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

You've got to wonder why Coveney has not resigned yet, surely he knew this info was going to be released 🤔

What's Michael's next move, does he stand over this too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,395 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Coveney and Varadkar have been taking the piss and treating the public as fools. One or both have to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,143 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

He's kind of boxed himself into a corner, should have kept quite over the weekend.

I'm just astonished how he wasn't even slightly aware of what was about to be released

This is FG’s worst case scenario if Simon C gets his marching orders, and while I haven’t read every page of this traunche of documents and txt messages, for the some that I’ve seen, the conclusion that you have say is that the foreign affairs Minister is toast.

This is exactly what Leo V wants, that his rival for any future FG leadership role, will be used as a sacrificial lamb, to save the beleaguered and stuttering government from imminent collapse and more importantly strengthening Leo V’s grip as FG leader.

if your a FG supporter, member, public representative or voter, this is an absolute disaster for them. Unless some bombshell drops, once again Leo will get away with his erratic behaviour, while his “colleague” Simon C faces political humiliation.

The big question now is will SC make it onto tomorrow and appear at the foreign affairs committee? There are further questions for other cabinet ministers including bankers best pal Paschal Donohue and Michael McGrath, in particular the former, who seemingly was all along doing all the ground work to get this makey up UN gig.

This is political nightmare for the govt. Could this issue bring down the coalition? The next 24 hours will be crucial. This controversy has plenty of legs in it yet!

Paschal admits that Zappone was trying to rig the job with him since "early this year", ie a full 6 months before the Cabinet knew about it
