Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    FP3 Sat, 04 Sept 11:00

    QU Sat, 04 Sept 14:00

Cannot say much about this track , when the talk of it started plenty of drivers said it would be impossible to over take here with the current cars.

I know the made some changes to the track to bring it up to F1 .

Great track, some really nice corners. The blast from turn 3 to turn 8 is spectacular but overtaking is going to be impossible

More following the money , but its FIA and F1 mo . hopefully I am proved wrong .

Having played it in the F1 game, my experience is that it is a narrow circuit where other than the banked corners there is only 1 line to race on so overtaking will be hard

It will be a bit like Hungary in the end

This video of the safety car on a lap shows how narrow it is

Almost every driver has been out for a track walk, even Lewis which is unusual. Maybe it won’t be great for overtaking but the first race on a new track is usually interesting.

Not expecting a classic on race day, it's such a narrow track and modern F1 cars are massive. This will probably be all about qualifying. Weather forecast looks dry and sunny for the weekend

I know its still a pandemic and F1 is doing well to keep races on but why go to a track where people cant pass. Surely thats not what people want to watch, a procession around lap after lap with no racing

One thing I cannot wait for is F1 reporters to stop asking Russell and Bottas where they are going to be driving next year . Its pain ful at this stage .

    Max

No way would they consider going there, nor would Zandvoort have done the updates to the track without the Max factor

It's probably due to the money Max can generate for the circuit, which is the right kind of money grab at least and not the Middle Eastern bloody money

Concensus seems to be it will be all about qualifying as over taking will be rare and hard come by, could be quite a punishing track if a driver loses focus, plenty turns and never too far from the wall. Any chance of the race being a two stop to shake things up?

Max knows this track very well so I'm hopeful that he'll be dominant this weekend in front of his home crowd

I’d imagine we’ll see a safety car or two tomorrow given the lack of run-off so could be a lottery for who can pick up a cheap pit stop.

Max is about! During the Schumacher years, they had 2 races in Germany.

Also Heineken is Dutch and is the main sponsor for this weekend.

Was hoping Ferrari would be in the Mix here as well .

Qualifing is going to be chaos traffic

It's a pity the current barges that pass for F1 cars are so unsuited to classic tracks. Still, there's plenty of scope for errors to be punished and interesting strategies to play out. You can't overtake at Monaco and that doesn't stop it throwing up great races sometimes.

2nd weekend in a row where the race result will be decided on the Saturday it seems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,658 ✭✭✭quokula

If you're in second place and you have the faster car, you have the option of the undercut. Team mates or other midfield runners going long could come into play too if overtaking is difficult enough that they could still defend on much older tyres. Mistakes will be punished by gravel and barriers. Safety cars are likely. There are so many possibilities for an interesting race, not every track needs to allow the fastest car to blast past with DRS open on a straight to guarantee victory, sometimes more difficult overtaking can make races interesting too. We need to wait and see before passing judgement.

Yeah I agree a lot of people said similar things about Hungary but that was a great race.

Hamilton Red Flag this time , Power loss , stopped on Track

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,164 ✭✭✭shanec1928

Bit of a joke that he didn’t coast it off the track instead of parking it on the corner for the potential of an accident.

This track 13+ years ago would've been great, imagine Kimi/Alonso/Hamilton going flat out for 10 laps at a time. They'd be knackered :L

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,903 ✭✭✭Joeface

    Decent from the Ferrari

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,268 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

Wasn't it Ferrari who brought in a bunch of engine upgrades?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,903 ✭✭✭Joeface

Nope think that engine upgrade is for Monza .

Some turn around if they get going. Definitely the best team driver line up on the grid. Sainz is very under rated at times . Almost as fast as Leclecre but is better on tires than Leclecre. Makes them very even

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,547 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

I don't think they've decided when to introduce the engine upgrades yet. They have both used all their engines (sainz certainly has), so they need to take an engine penalty when they use the upgrades.

Monza would usually be a good place to take an engine penalty as they could presumably use the new engines to make up the places, but Ferrari might be reluctant to do it there. Remains to be seen.

Serious track this, never seems to stop after the main straight.

Max's long stint times were very fast, Merc compromised with only have 1 car to do 2 cars worth of work. Should be a good qualy.

Kimi is out with Covid and Kubica in for the weekend

    Hope he recovers well.

It must be the most inconsequential substitution of all time. An aging driver phoning it in for a drivers whose return, 2 years ago, was a complete flop. Tough ask for Bobby K now to step in having missed Friday.
