Offered a council house, what next?

    Hi guys, got a letter last week offering us a council house, and have sent in a written acceptance.

    Just wondering what happens next?

    Does it usualy move pretty quickly once you accept or is it still likely to be several months before we hear anything else?

    There's some work that will need doing on the house, it's currently bare concrete floors, so how long will we have to move in once we get keys? I assume we will need to start paying rent to the council right away.


    Any info from people who've been through the process would be appreciated!

    We moved into ours 6 months ago after receiving word about the offer late January. They will do a final means test to ensure you are still entitled to the offer and you'll be let know after that if the offer has been approved. It can be a waiting game after that but it is worth pointing out to you that no flooring can be standard with some county councils and you may need to floor it yourself. We had delays due to ours being a new build and covid slowed things down but from the provisional offer to keys in hand was 4 months.
