Yes. I was getting notifications for forums I had followed on the old site but not the new one. They did not show up on my list of forums in the notification settings page. Last night I was only following After Hours, Feedback and Computers and Technology but I was getting notifications for Coronavirus, Current Affairs, DIY. Earlier today I got notifications for Mobiles, Cycling Adverts and Dublin City. These were forums I was following on the old site but never followed on the new one. They were not showing on the list in the notification settings page. I have since added them and removed them and it has stopped the notifications.

I am getting used to the new site. Growing on me TBH.

Just to put data to this. I did a quick-n-dirty run to show how long it takes to display the "quick" search when you type in a query and then the full search. Basically the same amount of time - +12 seconds.

If I check my followed forums on mobile it just shows what I followed since the migration, but when I reset my notifications preferences it showed what I had previously followed. It only stood out because I didn't follow them all again, so somehow previously followed forums are recognised.

"View latest post" link on a thread NEVER brings me to the last post :(

Niamh I used to follow the Corona forum unfollowed before the change can't unfollow now and getting notifications for threads I never posted in

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 26,424 Mod ✭✭✭✭Peregrine

I don't follow any busy forums so I've largely escaped this notification issue. I only got one additional notification. It was for a new post in a forum that I do not follow.

However, I followed that forum pre-migration. I can't unfollow it because I don't follow it anymore.

Follow the forum, untick the popup box in the notifications page and then unfollow it. That should work.

I've just received a notification of a new post in a forum I did follow on the old site. I have not followed any forums on the new site.

I'm not following the forums at all, nor are they showing up in my notification preferences. For example take the Legal Discussion notification below:

    image.png

When I go to the legal discussions forum, it shows that I'm not following it at all:

    image.png

and then in my notification preferences below, it shows none of the above notifications in the list:

    image.png

And even though I only have notifications set to notify when people mention me or I get a PM, I'm still being hammered out of it for notifications on forums I don't follow

And it's still giving one notification for every post rather than for every updated thread, and there's still the issue around clearing notifications not working properly on mobile and desktop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭tossy

Have unchecked all notification settings bar PM's and i'm still getting 30, 40 , 50 notifications every time i log in.

You need to go to the forums that are giving you the notification, follow them and the untick the popup box for them in the notifications page. Then you can unfollow them if you want.

If you can go to that forum here https://www.boards.ie/categories/coronavirus-covid-19 if you are desktop (laptop, PC, etc) and click on the bell icon at the top. You can change the notification setting to Unfollow or Follow on homepage only to remove notificati0ons.

If you are on mopbile, go here https://www.boards.ie/categories/current-affairs-imho and click on the cog icon next to Coronavirus and click Unfollow.

You'll need to go to the forum, follow and then unfollow the forum, that should work, see my post above about how to do that. Let me know if you run into any issues though.

Thanks for posting how to get around this @AlmightyCushion you saved me a few posts 😊

Guys I have updated the team working on this with the info from here and the other thread (Just bugs, etc) that it looks as though old followed forums have now been migrated across but with notifications for all new threads and psots enabled - these should appear in your Followed Categories and should have had Follow on homepage only enabled. Each of you could have changed it then as you saw fit. Hopefully they can revert to that, I'll keep you posted.

One question and one suggestion if that's ok?

Question: I've looked on the "How can I" thread but can't see how to multi quote in this new version of the site i.e. choose what portion or portions of a previous post to quote in circumstances where several points need to be made or responded to. Is it possible?

Suggestion: Why not have a Bookmarks icon along with the 4 main icons on the top right of the screen (Search, Notifications, Messages & Profile) which would save having to constantly click on Profile and then Bookmarks just to get to the list of threads you are following and want to catch up on. I don't know about others but getting to (or back to) my bookmarked threads is the single most frequent action I take on boards. Why not make it a one click process?

Thanks Niamh and all for focusing on keeping what was good about the old site and implementing new features etc available from the new system.

I suggested that as well - it's the main thing that's making the new site really clunky to use compared to the old.

Yes and if there's only room for 4 icons move the "Messages" icon into the Profile menu and replace it with the "Bookmarks" icon. I rarely get messages so can't say for sure but I'm guessing the Notifications Icon will alert you to the fact you have a message waiting or can be set to do so.

as I said earlier I received a notification for a new post in a forum that I did follow on the old site but is not in my followed categories.

Same. I just got a notification for Aviation and Aircraft which I haven't refollowed on the new site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,608 ✭✭✭sioda

On mobile tried this and still getting notifications at the bell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,365 ✭✭✭I am me123

Anyone know how to delete a thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,284 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

I don't think you can. An ordinary user couldn't do it on the old site either, it was a mod only function.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,716 ✭✭✭Sawduck

I turned off notifications for everything except private messages but i'm still getting notifications whenever someone comments on a discussion thread, i haven't even been on those discussion threads in years, how do i stop getting them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,765 ✭✭✭✭Deja Boo

As am I, on desktop. Everything (except PM's) is unclicked in notification settings, yet am getting notifications for a threads I've not participated in (and is not bookmarked).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 576 ✭✭✭Zymurgist

I am getting notifications for forums I followed on the old site. I am not following any forums on the new site so there is definitely something awry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭iLikeWaffles

You can multi quote by just pressing the quote button on multiple posts. Can't choose which section to quote however, but would be a nice feature. I know on other websites that use discourse forums you can just select the text and a menu comes up that allows you to quote part of a post, that would be a nice feature to have here.

There looks to be a setting that needs to be enabled server side to make a quoted section editable, even limited functionality such as bolding the parts of a quote would make life easier.

    contenteditable="false" currently it is disabled

I cannot seem to see where I can unsubscribe to a thread - I am getting loads of new notifications in the bell

    boards notifications.jpg

in the form of red dot with number of notification in white number - but i have not subscribed to them threads that I am receiving notifications for nor can I see them in my bookmarks nor have replied on the thread so I don't know why I am being notified about them . I only want to be notified of a thread I have subscribed to / followed / replied in to cut down these notifications, but when I open up the thread I cannot see an 'unfollow' button or any means to stop receiving notifications on the thread . any ideas?

Also , has the 'Tags' feature missing in 'New look Boards.IE' ? - I cannot see it any more .. and the threads have the latest replies showing first now instead of at the end as the old one. Can that be put back or do I change it in settings?

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
