Samsung QE65LS03A - stand size

Hey,

I'm looking at the 65 inch Samsung Frame. Usage is for TV and gaming.

I have a 32 inch Frame that I got off yourselves in 2019, is the 2021 model an improvement? In what ways is it better?

I also have a question about the stand. The width is 1457, do you know what the distance is between the 2 feet of the stand? Trying to figure if I would need to get a wider TV unit to stand it on.

Finally, visually how would this compare to something like Richer Sounds Ireland - LG OLED65A16LA?

Hey Awec.

Thanks for the post and sorry for the delay.

The 2021 versions are an improvement on the previous years as they use a different panel now compared to 2019. This in turn will give a better image and contrast.

They are using a different processor which helps with motion handling and also how smoothly the operation.

The distance between the two legs would be 107.68cm.

Comparing it to an OLED, the OLED is going to have the better image but you would need to go in at the 65C14 to really notice a difference.

Cheers Kenny! Sounds like the Frame is pretty much as good, with maybe a slight compromise on contrast.

In our case, the position of the window relative to the TV means there can be glare on the screen during the day. I am wondering if the OLED screens fare better in these conditions?

So now I'm down to 3 options:

65" Samsung Frame (Richer Sounds Ireland - Samsung QE65LS03A New A Series Frame TV) ~€2100
55" LG C1 (Richer Sounds Ireland - LG OLED55C14LB) ~€1700
55" LG G1 (Richer Sounds Ireland - LG OLED55G16LA) ~€2100

The issue I now have is I have Yamaha RXV481 A/V Receiver which doesn't support HDMI 2.1 (4k@120hz). So this will need to be replaced. The biggest issue I have with my current A/V is the remote, the I/R is really annoying as it means the receiver needs to be on view, and the remote has to be pointed directly at it. But looking at the options they all seem to be still like this.

It looks like the Yamaha RX-V4A is the cheapest receiver that supports 4k@120hz but only on 1 port, which isn't very future proof. It looks like the next one is the Yamaha RXV6A which has 3 ports capable, but is almost 700 quid.

What's the thoughts on soundbars? My Yamaha is hooked to a set of Denon SYS2020 speakers, but my living room is quite small, so I am wondering if I would even notice a downgrade if I just had a soundbar instead? Maybe a soundbar with a subwoofer. If I have a soundbar, can I adjust the volume with the normal TV remote?

The problem then is the cheaper LG C1 has a very low, centered stand, so I couldn't set a soundbar in front of it or it'd block some of the screen. The more expensive G1 could probably fit one. I can't wall mount the TV or the bar as it's going in a corner.

If you are after the best picture quality then the G1 is the one to go for.

All 3 sets you have listed are fantastic.

At the moment AV receivers are very thin on the ground due to the world wide chip shortage.

Hopefully in a few weeks we will start to see the Denon range start to be restocked.

The Denon 2700 is very popular.

There are not any receivers under 500 Euro that will have lots of 2.1 ports that I can think of.

At the moment the RXA4 is the starting point.

On the soundbar front, There are some really good ones.

The Yamaha YAS207 is very well reviewed and sound great. Priced at 349 Euro

To get a soundbar that would start to compete with a home cinema setup there is the LG SN9YG priced at 699 Euro

I think the only one of these that will do 2.1 is the Sony via a firmware update.

In my opinion you will most always get a better surround sound feel from a separate 5.1 setup.

On the soundbar hdmi 2.1 front, am I right in saying that the G1 has an eARC port, so I can connect ps5 for example straight to tv, and connect the soundbar (e.g. the LG one you listed) to the tv via the eARC?

Also curious about the Sonos offering. What's the thoughts on this? I think they do an Arc/beam, and then you can get wireless sub and speakers? Expensive, presumably because of the wireless element, but is the sound quality good?

Yes, that is correct.

You can connect the PS5 to the TV to use the HDMI 2.1 and then eARC from TV to soundbar.

The Sonos ARC is fantastic and sounds excellent. Currently priced at 869 Euro

Hi AWEC.

There is a noticeable difference between the ARC and the Beam. The ARC produces more depth and a clearer top end over the beam.

The 2.1 in a soundbar only really comes into play if you are connecting your source directly to a soundbar and then HDMI to the TV.

If you are going to the TV first then the TV will process the video and pass the audio to the soundbar.

It is always hard for soundbars to compete against a 5.1 home cinema setup. If you combined 2 Sonos Ones as rears and a subwoofer then you would get closer to what home cinema will give you.

On their own thought the ARC and Beam do a very good job!

Also how do the OLEDs stand up to direct sunlight? Are they better than other panel types?

There is a noticeable difference between the two unfortunately so the extra 400 is worth it in my opinion.

LG call it the EVO OLED:

New OLED Evo

It’s hard to improve on LG’s stunning OLED panels, but that’s exactly what they’ve done with the OLED Evo. The most significant improvement to OLED since 4K HDR, OLED Evo delivers brighter and more dynamic images through the use of a new luminous element. Detail and clarity are enhanced, pushing the LG OLED55G16LA even further ahead of the competition.

One downside on the G series is that they do not come with a stand as they are designed to be wall mounted.

Direct sunlight can be an issue for OLED as it will cause a reflection on the panel.

Kennys on leave at the moment so I hope you don't mind me replying in his behalf.

We have the G1 ibn stock and I'm showing limited stock of the stand in our main warehouse. I also have the Sonos Arc in stock but we are currently completely out of stock of the sub and I have no ETA for new stock yet.

I also can't guarantee that the stand will lift the TV higher than the height of the Arc as from the pictures the TV is only lifted to the height of the actual foot which is quite slim.

Thanks @Richersounds.ie: DavidS . Have another question about my current receiver, just before I hit the buy button here! I currently have a Yamaha RXV481. Supposedly this can do 4k@60Hz, and can do HDR. And supposedly it can do HDMI-CEC.

So, if I understand this right, if I bought the LG G1 and connected via my current audio setup, the only thing I would be compromising right now is no 4k@120hz, and no Dolby Atmos support? But because the LG G1 has HDMI-CEC, I should be able to control the receiver with my TV remote (or my Sky Q remote)?

Is this correct?

Could I instead connect my PS5 / Sky Q directly to the G1, and then use the TV's eARC out to connect to an HDMI port on the Yamaha RXV481, and get audio that way? That way, all I am missing is the Dolby Atmos?

You are correct that if you connect everything to the amp you can link the remotes via HDMI CEC however if you connect it to the TV first I'm not sure that this will work as the TV will be connected via ARC and you wouldn't be able to control the components via the amp as they aren't connected direct!

I have the Sonos Ones available in black but none in white at the moment. I do have the Sonos One Gen 2 in both black and white though.

The FTVS1 would lift it a little higher than dedicated G1 stand but again I wouldn't be able to guarantee the clearance!
