I can only speak for myself.

Then I would not have to factor their attendance at an extremely dubious event (I don't believe for a second the AG's intervention was to 'clarify') into who I will vote for at the next election.

I want to know who thought this was ok.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭dudley72

Then you will have stories about cover up and all sorts of carry on. It doesn't matter if people did/didn't attend now, the mob have convinced themselves this is a huge thing and no matter what happens they won't be happy till it is

Luckily the good people of Ireland, the good online users are already calling this mob out on this carry on. Let's just hope these people win, buckling to pressure from online bullies should never be allowed on any website.

The only mob on this thread is the ones trying to shut down any poster that says anything negative about the whole affair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76,934 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Gas to read some of their stuff.

You'd think this was some sort of social norm changing event to read some of the language.

In reality it is just another sordid episode in this governments arrogant cling to power. We've had several of these sordid affairs now.

I know, it starting to look like we are in North Korea with people brainwashed into thinking their glorious leader can do no wrong.

Kim Joun-un would be proud of some of the posters on here.

Unfortunately, I (and am probably not the only one who did) saw your original reply to this, but unfortunately I didn't have time as I had a task at work that needed to be completed(which is ironic, considering) to quote it in full before you did your cowardly "edit".

I am not "idle" as you had posted, I work bloody hard to provide for my family and myself, and I contribute to these forums when I get the chance, because I like to keep up with current affairs, I find you'll learn more here on the average day, than what's shown in the media or the television. I post here because I enjoy the craic, the debate, and yeah, it's good to sometimes watch folk squirm while they try and defend the indefensible.

However, I find it a disgrace that someone can get away with posting continuous lies, misrepresentations, insult and is if that isn't bad enough, mange to get away scott free with a snide insinuation, and downright insult to label people posting here as "idle".

If people didn't post here the site would soon die off, and also give some credit to your own self worth before trying to attach a stigma of laziness to people who contribute to the site , 572 posts is no mean feat in the matter of short weeks you have been here afterall.

Just a some friendly advice though, the next time you decide to try and label folk as "idle", at least have the courage to stand over it, and let it stand, editing it was yellow belly stuff.

What a cowardly and downright sleeven thing to do.

The idle people/mob which I have referred to plenty of times is on Twitter. I deleted the post because I didn't want to look at another rant against me with personal comments. As we can see I didn't delete it in time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76,934 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

I can confirm that the post was what you said it was before the 'edit'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,225 ✭✭✭skimpydoo

Can I just say that if Cuddly would stop deflecting and answer what he is asked, then everything here would go along smoothly. Why can't the FFG crowd on here admit that the Merrion bash was a big mistake and has now become a clusterfook.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭dudley72

Any questions I was asked I have answered, you can check back over the history of the thread. Again as I already said, you should not be scared of people having a different opinion, they are entitled to it.

Nobody has an issue with different opinions. This is what the site survives on. It is when a poster routinely lies and misrepresents other posters that issues arise. And you are raising criticisms from quite a few posters with your carry on.

Just today you misrepresented what a poster said and walked away from it without withdrawing it even thought the poster themselves clarified it and I pulled you on it.

I understand you'll accuse people of roaring and shouting over something nobody is interested in except yourself and the rest of us on here. I've moved on.

You said the Merrion asked about regulations around restrictions, that's how they knew when nobody else did. Who did they ask? Varadkar didn't know and neither did Failte Ireland. So who did the Merrion ask? Was it the AG?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,324 ✭✭✭Shebean

Your comments here are a great example of it.

Still looking for proof Varadkar contacted the Merrion? 🧐

“For my part, I probably let my guard down. I did do a treble check. I checked the regulations, the ones I sign off on, the ones I am familiar with, I checked with the organiser of the event and the manager of the hotel as I arrived.

By 'mob' do you mean people looking to hold elected officials to account? Do you not see that as essential, especially with FF/FG?

People can decide who they support based on their actions. It's good to be informed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,324 ✭✭✭Shebean

Where would someone who spends all day insulting people and trying to close this story, important story, down, get the impression they have any kind of moral high ground? So are people curious about this mask slip 'bad' online users? Calling people a 'mob' is what we call the electorate seeking clarity regarding a crony position they were expected to pay for? Sounds to me like you don't like democracy or political free speech you disagree with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,929 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

The point is that there is an online mob, who model themselves in the same vein as Joe McCarthy. Most of these mob probably haven't heard of Joe McCarthy or McCarthyism but there ya go.

Of course, the question is, if all TD's and Senators respond and say they weren't there, apart from the two that admitted within days they were there, what next? Who will the self-appointed online mob turn to next?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,929 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

Over 1,900 posts I very much doubt it.

Like many of these threads, it's been running well past its due date. Most people have moved on, yet the same half dozen or so people keep this going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76,934 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

    Successful 'mob'.

The crony appointment didn't go through and Varadkar has been forced to make an embarrassing apology for his actions again.

Maybe your ire should be reserved for those who keep doing the wrong things?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,929 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

Why do you excuse mob mentality. If in your view a mob is 'succesful' does that make it OK? Does the end justify the means?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,211 ✭✭✭✭Suckit

    Mob mentality..

It is less harmful than a petition. Asking TD's if they attended Zappones party where they can answer if they wish, and lie if they wish.

Thank you for again proving my point, why are you so scared of someone having a different opinion?

You are just another account who thinks you are right, if someone has a different opinion they are wrong and it’s your job to change it. It’s not.

In terms of free speech the problem lies with you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76,934 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

It's not a mob Mark, far as I can see the tweets are in the main coming in from real people to their TD.

You are making the 'mob' accusations. Which is why I used the quote tags in this instance.

And if you see it as a 'mob' then it is a successful 'mob'. Simple as that.

The crony appointment is no more and the 2 TD's revealed to be at the party have embarrassingly had to apologise.

BTW It was reps of the media who pushed for apologies. They in this 'mob' too?

Talk I'm hearing is, at least half a dozen Fianna Fail lads were in attendance, with 9 FG members, 2 Greens and several independents including one from Dundalk, and another one from Roscommon. and would you believe there's another labour TD going to be named also also who had his grotty little ass on a chair at the merrion too.

If my source is correct, and they normally are, (no I'm not going to reveal my source so no point asking) it's going to be a very interesting weekend for this government.

Get yourself to SuperValu and stock up on popcorn is the advice I've received. 🍿

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76,934 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Slow learners...they've never really learned, with all the high paid advisors/PR geeks etc how to get ahead of a story and avoid the damaging drip feed/further info emerging.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭Up At Fleecies

Correct FB, correct, the thing is, had these dopes of gotten out front and center from the beginning and made some kind of clarifying statement along the lines of, yeah we were there, as private citizens at a private function. No laws or guidelines were broken etc etc etc, people would probably be talking about something else now. My source wont name anyone, but I can give a good stab at who was there myself... the mods on this site have stifled me in the past, so not going to speculate further.

Looks like we'll have to sit back and enjoy the ride folks.

Im guessing this Louth TD is an ex football manager and strangely enough an ex member of a certain party

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,211 ✭✭✭✭Suckit

Only 6 FG left to respond, so must not all be TD's.

I daren't think what the alternatives are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,365 ✭✭✭✭McMurphy

Josepha Madigan is in the "DNR" section. Surely she's not about to become embroiled in another hotel controversy??

And Dara Calleary too? I refuse to believe he'd be so stupid. Don't care for the guy either way, but please God tell me I'm not paying taxes to fund such numbskulls that would think it was ok to go off galavanting to a hotel which breached guidelines (so far as the rest of us knew) a second time?

Please Dara Calleary, restore my faith in humanity v stupidity.

Barry Cowen too. Hopefully he got a lift home if he went....

Can we bookmark this post and come back to it in a few weeks, and laugh out loud when very little of this is true?

I don’t think anyone ever thought it was all TD’s anyway. Likely a mix of TD’s/senators/councillors etc
