New router won’t connect to FTTH Eir Brodband

Hi,

I was wondering If anyone had the same issue I have. Got my finer 1000mbs broadband installed and it’s all working fine Eir router. But I got myself a better device Linksys EA7500 and I can’t seam to get the internet working. I thought I got I’ll nicely configured with vlan set to 10 on Wan port and DHCP for connection. It just won’t pick up the address unfortunately.

It should be a straightforward process just the cat cable from the terminal to router abs it should pick it up immediately.

What am I missing here ?

Any suggestions ?

Do I need to go and enable ppoe ? Anyone knows the login and password for the FTTH eir ? All the examples I found where for Vodafone.

This model is 5 years old ,are you sure it is “better device” than SagemCom F3000 ?

did you get it brand new , is it in a working order?

Have you tried it to connect it at the back of the Eir’s router ( AP mode) , just to check performance?

try factory reset , just in case

You don’t need PPPoE for Eir FTTH.

Second hand seams it’s all working. Got it reset few times.

Performance wise I’m not sure I only had it up bridged for couple of minutes yesterday. If it doesn’t work I leave as a AP upstairs hard wired.

I did everything yesterday maybe it takes time to get the IP and register the device I give it one more go today

so it’s only vlan 10, dhcp untagged ? Nothing else then so ?

For any other 3rd party router only VLAN 10 , unless there is something specific to Linksys.

I got it working eventually. For some reason it wasn’t picking up the ip on Wan. Made another few resets and it finally worked. Any setting change tho and it looses it and you have to force restart it.

in regards to performance it’s very similar have to do more test but no obvious improvement

So the performance on F3000 from Eir is far superior to the Linksys same as stability and speed and everything else. No saying EA7500 is bad but defo cant provide same quality signal as f3000. I think I have to shift another few euro for a better device. I just want min 500mbs min around house for streaming 4k 80GB content with no lag or hangs.

I would consider buying extra AP point from Eir , it will work as a mesh system with F3000.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find any reviews from the people who actually know something about networking, hard to tell how good it is.

main question, does it support Ethernet backhaul ( link between router and AP) or only wireless backhaul.

Anyhow, there no way you’ll get 1 router which capable to cover whole house with speeds like that. It has to be 2 units IMO minimum. And you obviously want 1 WiFi network to cover the house , so mesh system is the only way.

Netgear ORBI RBK852 - good choice if you want top of the range WIFI 6 system btw.

I have previous generation , Orbi RBK53 , wifi5 , good system too, but not future proof.( you could get two used units ( rbk50 kit ) for about £158 from Amazon Warehouse atm) .It is capable of 400-650 WIFI speeds.
