I have noticed a lot of leather jacket larvae on the patio in the mornings which came from the lawn.

    usually see about 20-30 larvae.

any recommendations on treatments available in Ireland and when the best time of year to apply is?

Regular cutting of the grass, scarification, aeration and fertilising the lawn will keep it thick and lush. This makes the Crane Flies have to work harder to burrow into the lawn and lay their eggs. You can add Nematodes to feed on the leatherjackets if the infestation is really damaging the lawn.

Any chemical that kills leather jackets will probably also kill earthworms.

    I wouldn't do it myself.

Nematodes - April to Sept, but Autumn is most recommended as I think this is when then lay the eggs

My lawn was destroyed from foxes digging them up to eat!!

Treated last year and this year with Nematodes and only have a few holes now

Going to re-treat next month and probably once a year after that

    gardenshop.ie sell them
