Ok folks..we have a new platform but the rules etc haven't changed, particularly the charter. If you are posting here keep it to MMA..no fighter bashing - the 'he's a scumbag' comments etc we can do without. Attack the post not the poster, i.e. none of the little digs at each other...if you have nothing worthwhile to add to the discussion then simply don't post.

Would I be right in saying Conor hasn't been in Ireland since a few weeks before 2nd Dustin fight and went straight to Cali for the 3rd one.

Obviously the leg doesn't help and it looks like he will be out there longer, what does that mean from a tax perspective in Ireland if he is out there the guts of 7-8 months now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,344 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

I'd imagine he's ordinary resident in Ireland.

If he's out of the country (Ireland) that length of time he would be liable to pay US tax I would imagine.

There would be an Ireland US tax treaty but Im sure his tax agent will have all that covered.

You need to be gone three years to lose ordinary status though. And he wasn’t in the US for the entire time. So wouldn’t he a US tax resident, but the US taxes sports earnings where the games take place.

It may be different for Sports and the US with regards to tax.

I can only speak from experience when I was living in France where I was also a tax resident because I was there 6 months of the year and had to pay a French tax.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,398 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

You would of been tax resident in France after 6 month, and still ordinarily tax resident in Ireland also. Ireland is unique if that there is two tiers class of tax residency. When I left I was a tax resident in Australia from the first year, but also ordinarily tax resident in Ireland for 3 years. Made no difference to me, but could affect where a massive earner's tax goes.

Because PPV numbers are the true judge of someones character. 🤭

I believe that's called Sportswashing. Trying to redeem himself after doing **** things. Qatar and Man City do it on a bigger scale.

Khabib's dad (good) defeated Covid (evil) by dying and thus killing the virus inside him. A virus can't survive without a host. He's also, in Khabib's eyes, gone to Paradise. Good always defeats evil.

Someone needs to take Conor's phones [and Wi-Fi] away from him ASAP. When do Kavanagh or somebody at SBG step in and say "What the Hell is wrong with you? You're threatening to murder kids [He previously hinted at Dustin's daughter and now Khabib's kids] now?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,615 ✭✭✭Mr.Plough

Khabib was on Mike Tyson’s podcast talking about Conor. One of Tysons famous quotes was saying he wanted to eat Lennox Lewis’s children, so Conor said he wants to eat Khabib’s children.

Conor seems to stick to a fairly clean diet so I highly doubt that he would attempt to eat another human given the opportunity.

If you actually look into that case, you would probably find, like most people, that Tyson was very likely wrongly convicted. Trial by jury is by no means a perfect system and Mike did himself no favours with how he acted at that time, especially since he was literally one of the scariest men on the planet. I'm sure Khabib knows this.

    honestly, this thread needs closing.

What a great example Conor is to people who come after him, the bloke is a walking lesson. He embraced fame and all the Crumlin scum who came with it and it completely destroyed his career. Money, women, drugs and ego all went to his head and he completely lost all of that magic that got him to where he was when he beat Alvarez. In both the recent Dustin fights he has looked maybe 20-30% of the fighter he used to be, he is a mess and the worst thing about it is he is has so much pride he will keep going back and getting beaten. Is it fair enough to say the Kinahans took his soul and spat it out?

So you think a thread needs closing, so you post on the thread, that you think needs closing and give your opinion about the subject matter of the thread. Makes sense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,557 ✭✭✭Nigzcurran

The thread needs closing? Then you go on to post in the thread, ask a question and expect an answer in a thread you want closed? Yep totally makes sense

DC seems one of the happiest blokes in MMA.

It's all he has left, some people have all the money in the world and are still so poor. Misfortune.

I think something not spoken about enough is Conor punch resistance seems to be gone, Or maybe he never had it at lightweight,

Dustin isn't the hardest puncher in the world & in both fights had Conor done pretty quickly, ( he hurt him before Conor clinched in last fight,)

Since the end of 2015 Dustin has only finished Bobby Green quicker than Conor in both fights,

What's he got against DC? Is there anyone he doesn't hate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,344 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

He's just a bitter ***** basically. He exudes insecurity and bitterness 🤷🏻‍♂️

Did I upset you by stating an opinion?

Certainly looks like it, thankfully for me the thread is still open so it appears that yes I can still state an opinion. It also appears that you and your mate stated pretty much said the exact same thing within 22 minutes of each other, doesn't appear fishy at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,557 ✭✭✭Nigzcurran

You are spouting nonsense about the kinehans taking his soul, like what is that even about ye mad thing. He’s crap at mma now, fine I accept that, his attitude stinks, yep true, everything else is just like stuff ye read in the sun gossip pages

Another lengthy tirade at DC on Twitter last night. Great response from DC though, basically "Stop worrying about me and start worrying about the guys kicking your ass in the octagon".

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,462 Mod ✭✭✭✭Axwell

Crybaby and Nigzcurran cut out the nonsense - Crybaby rather than closing the thread there's a very easy solution for you, just ignore the forum and don't post - if the pair of you don't stop bickering I can help with that.

Do people still like him as a person anymore? Fair enough if someone likes McGregor the fighter but I honestly dunno how anyone can like him as a person anymore, he's just embarrassing these days

I've always liked McGregor the fighter, though I never bothered watching his weigh-ins, pressers, or anything like that. Just never really cared, just as I never cared what he did in his own personal time outside the octagon either, whether good or bad. I just enjoyed watching him fight.

Lately though he's been an asswipe of unprecedented magnitude, it's impossible to seperate the fighter, from the person he pretends to be, or the person he really is. I don't know what's up with him or how much of all the recent vitriol is "real" or designed to keep him in the headlines and maintain his $$$ power despite the twin losses, but I find it hard to understand how anyone would continue to support him at any level.

There was a time when it was relatively harmless schtick for the most part, and he was good at selling it. The bus incident was obviously different, but however inexcusable or criminal that was, at least there was some sort of credible "sellable" context behind it with the whole Artem thing. With all that in mind, even with how outrageous (and no doubt calculated) it was, that would've been forgiven with time.

The last while though it's like he's completely unhinged and really going down a one way street. It's not funny, there's zero intelligence on display, just bitter, sad, kinda pathetic ramblings of someone who's not with reality - starting with the bewildering Octagon death threats, to the cringe-inducing Twitter rampages.

I would maybe understand if it's a calculated effort to maintain his star power and relevance - realistically McGregor is still making major news every other day with his tirades, so there's that.

But it's so dumb, unfunny and self-incriminating as same, I can't really buy into that theory. The nature of the messages reads more like someone attacking the keyboard at 3am after a feed of substances. If maintaining relevance and generating headlines was the plan, there are slightly smarter ways to achieve the same goal without painting yourself as a contender for the world's biggest sore loser/ass-wipe.

Dunno, rooted for him (as a fighter) in the Dustin rematch, was a bit put off by his resurgent a-hole attitude in the trilogy fight but still felt like I'd like to see him capture the magic again. In the aftermath of that fight and other recent behaviors though, honestly I just want to see him retire from the sport.
