Climate Change is Normal and Welcome in My Opinion

One benefit of the pandemic over the past year is that it gave us a break from all the doom, despair and hysteria of the climate change crisis news incessantly jammed down our throats on a daily basis.

Now that the pandemic news is losing traction it's time to fire up the climate change outrage machine again

You know there is a serious reporting problem when the only public figures allowed have an opinion on the matter are Greta Thunberg, Beth Doherty from 'Fridays for Future':

Oisin Coghlan from 'Friends of the Earth' and this guy:

... to name but a few. Notice the trend here? The only side we hear from are those on the fringes. Anyone else is not entitled to an opinion and should not be heard from in RTE's eyes.

Before you spit your coffee out in disgust, no the science is not established, we have no evidence that it is caused by humans and we have no evidence that it is a problem yet.

We do know that we are in a warming cycle however and I for one am delighted.

Anyone who is living in fear, either doesn't have a grasp of how science works, how statistics works or how history works. In the 11th century temperatures were so mild that there were vineyards planted across Britain due to the optimal weather conditions. Far warmer than the temperatures we experience now. In the 1300s and 1600s we experienced miniature ice ages. Not to mention the hysteria of the 1970s when 'the science' thought we were entering another Ice age:

See the trend here? We are approaching the peak of a normal warming cycle and the only people who think it's a problem are the fanatics

    An excellent documentary here:

And your qualifications on this matter are what exactly?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,137 ✭✭✭Markus Antonius

Ha! If you can't find fault with the argument, find fault with the author. Typical that this is the first response.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,248 ✭✭✭MrMusician18

An argument that uses a sleepy Eamonn Ryan as an effort to undermine the climate change position is not one that is anyway interested in facts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,244 ✭✭✭Brid Hegarty

It's like with smoking. It took a long time to prove.

And what the cigarette companies were very good at doing was creating doubt. They hired people so called health officials to ask questions to the scientists. They didn't so much argue against the scientists; they just asked questions that the scientists wouldn't really know the answers to.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,244 ✭✭✭Brid Hegarty

But can you explain the motive for the conspiracy? If it's not true then it has to be a conspiracy, right?

I'd be more inclined to believe a conspiracy along the lines of "oil companies are delaying hydrogen fuel technology being released" than I would believe the one that you are implying exists. It's a pretty big secret for everyone to have to keep.

Absolutely. Eamonn Ryan is useless though. He doesn't want to know the detail. Here we are putting in data centres which will bring us close to power cuts, and I haven't heard him say anything about such. He's not going to come up with any interesting idea for climate change... apart from riding his bike.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,885 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

The attitude I see online is that we should keep building data centres here as the conditions are better here for them. Surely spreading them out in different countries would be better for us.

As yes, English wine. It takes four people to drink. The victim, two to hold him down, and another to pour the wine down his throat.

There are more than 450 vineyards in England now. At the time of the Domesday book, there were 45 vineyards. So England is in fact ten times hotter now than it was in the 11th century.

Or the vineyard is actually nothing more than oft-repeated bs. Given this, I'm going to assume that the rest of your post has similar veracity.

    3 words for you.

    Rate. Of. Change.

I think Climate change is a massive problem and I have close to zero confidence in us acting appropriately to mitigate against it when so Covid showed us that so many people will not think of anything in the context of 'the common good' if it means they are inconvenienced even a fraction.

Changing from the overwhelmingly focused consumerist society that we have is hundreds of times more difficult that social distancing, wearing masks etc etc, and that proved to be too much for a very significant portion of the population.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,137 ✭✭✭Markus Antonius

Covid19 was indisputable proof that humans have nothing to do with climate change. We had a massive percentage of international flights grounded for the guts of a year. The streets were deserted of traffic for huge periods of 20/21 and then we get the usual condescension from RTE that it's "Still not enough"

Another thing I forgot to mention in my original post was the fascination with electric cars. "We have to go electric, we have to stop ICE before it's too late!!", completely ignoring the fact that the development of lithium ion batteries has decimated fresh water reserves of south America. But that's their problem isn't it? Let's sh*t in someone else's garden to keep our own clean why don't we. The hypocrisy...

It's a small comfort, but I do enjoy the thought of people such as yourself making awful real estate decisions as you're arrogant enough to think you know better than thousands of the world's scientists.

Just out of curiosity, are you also more than a little dubious about the whole covid thing?

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,520 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

You are wrong in every facet of your argument.

Ordinarily I would say that no one will listen to you, but unfortunately, ignorance hasn't been a barrier for many to gain a platform in the world we now live in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,947 ✭✭✭Padre_Pio

What if we made all these changes, became carbon neutral, energy efficient, self sufficient and it was all for nothing?

    Oh noes 🙄

  • Registered Users Posts: 326 ✭✭MyLove4Satan

Congradulations for not calling him a 'White Nationalist Conspiracy Theorist' even though it was tearing you apart so much that you kept it in.

I understand where people like the OP are coming from, this stuff isn’t easy reading and denial is a natural human response.

I think people who think we can turn it around are just as deluded though, the level of sacrifice and reduction in comfort and convenience required to mitigate this is just not palatable to most people and political suicide for political parties

    we are going down

  • Registered Users Posts: 914 ✭✭✭Burt Renaults

I'd love to have that level of confidence in my own opinions. Yeah, almost every actual expert in the entire world is wrong. It must be true because I read it on Facebook.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,248 ✭✭✭MrMusician18

Nah. When he posts something more compelling than a YouTube video and a pic of Eamonn Ryan asleep I'll take him seriously.

He must surely have something more than that when he's taking on peer reviewed scientific consensus?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,137 ✭✭✭Markus Antonius

Hows about the fact that Eamon Ryan and his team of "climate conscious" comrades pushed for everyone to buy turbo diesels in the mid-late 2000s? He has done far more damage than good to the environment.

Climate hysteria is full of inconvenient truths. Plenty more where that came from if you are up for it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,248 ✭✭✭MrMusician18

The greens actually in the first instance tried to push people towards cycling, public transport and local services. If you had to have a car they did want you in a diesel because they are more efficient from an energy and carbon perspective even if they were more polluting in other ways. The policy was about reducing carbon above other concerns.

To be honest, I can't really see what Irish green policy has got to do with the science. You don't have to like the greens to think climate change is a problem worth solving.

There seems to be a bizarre trend in Irish media these days of letting teenagers barely a week past their junior cert get given media platforms to spout nonsense they know feck all about. Or letting them front adverts, remember that young wan "we need to do more!" on an ad for AIB or some other chancers.

I was subjected to these absolute bores on Matt Cooper having a cry about never being able to afford a house and being forced to emigrate. Hint- if you think you will never be able to afford a house, you're already in the wrong college course, so why keep gong? As I always say, you never see a plumber or an electrician in an interview moaning that they can't buy a house, it's always some couple in their 30s who mammy convinced into going to college to study, anything, absolutely anything, as long as you have been to college.

    https://www.todayfm.com/podcasts/the-last-word-with-matt-cooper/gen-z-in-ireland-on-what-their-lives-will-look-like-after-lockdown

When I was half the age they currently are I seem to remember reading that half of Bangladesh, Manhattan and Holland would be under water by now.

The IPCC who has come out with the latest "damning report" features heavily in the documentary I linked in the OP. Here are some of the statements from climate experts featured in the documentary, some of whom are or were part of the IPCC itself:

"THe IPCC like any UN body is political - the final conclusions are politically driven" Professor Philip Stott, Dept of Biogeography - University of London

"This claim that the IPCC is the worlds top 1500/2500 scientists, you look up the bibliographies of people and it's simply not true. There are quite a number of non-scientists" - Professor Paul Reiter, IPCC & Pasteur Institute, Paris

"And to build the number up to 2500 they have to start taking reviewers and government people and so on. Anyone who ever came close to them. And none of them who are asked agree, many of them disagree" - Professor Richard Lindzen, IPCC & M.I.T

"Those people who are specialists but don't agree with the polemic and resign, and there have been a number of them that I know of, are simply put on the author list and become part of this 2500 of the world's top scientists" - Prof Paul Reiter

John Gibbons was on today fm this evening cribbing about how " the media here don't discuss climate change enough "

Same smug git is on with Matt Cooper at least once per week this past year

These climate alarmist evangelists are fanatics

Its deffo a thing.....we have hit drought or near on the requirements to be classed drought 3 of the last 5 aprils/may

Fundamentally,i do not think it can be tackled without getting worlds largest polluting econmies/companies on board, through sanctions/tax...which isnt going to happen anytime soon.....washing milk cartoons for recycing is the equilivalent of moving deckchairs on the titantic as regards climate change

I can't believe people are thanking these posts

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭crooked cockney villain

I've discussed numerous topics with friends, family and co workers down the years.

The housing crisis. Crime. Car insurance. Drug policy. Immigration. Brexit. The general cost of living. The increasing move by companies to inferior A.I and do it yourself models replacing staff. Covid. A United Ireland. Israel V Palestine. ISIS.

I'm not sure I've ever had anybody raise climate change, and when we have it's usually in the context of believing it's a scam to impose green taxes. I think the biggest chat I had about it was with my mechanic (who naturally thinks it's a load of shyte and that electric cars are an absolute white elephant given their laughable battery range)

    People really do not care.

You're right 10mins a week is plenty of time dedicated to the survival of the human race. Compare that to the amount of time talking about millionaires kicking a ball around a field in England.....or someone organizing a party during a pandemic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,505 ✭✭✭✭Mad_maxx

I'm willing to believe it is real but the likes of Gibbons is just a religious fundamentalists with a different obsession

If you turn off the tv then climate change doesn’t exist. The Irish weather has not changed in the last 100 years
