The rules didn't change. The issue is the guidelines and the law were not aligned because some of the most severe guidelines were not possible to implement constitutionally or to write laws that were coherent.

What the law has stated has always been clear. The government has however used the media to blur the distinction between law and guidelines as it needed people to follow a stricter regime than what they could legislate for.

We won't see an election as it really doesn't suit either party. Instead, we all have to put up with a dysfunctional marriage that neither party wanted in the first place.

Prediction: It will turn utterly toxic when the baton is passed from Martin to whoever can survive on the FG side of the deal and FF turn the screw on them (and they will). It's really no way to run a country.

election would still have ff fg in the mix sf i feel will not get enough to form any sort of stable government lots of people still will vote for the two old parties in the meantime Micky Martin will take any crap from fg as he was so desperate to get the gig he will stay as long as he can .

The AG just handed the crazies a bigger win than any of them could have hoped to achieve on their own.

The entire 'restrictions' thing is out the window, it's do as you please.

Putting the nation in grave danger to save Leo.

A corrupt shithole of a place

Wrong thread, but an independent police investigation stated this event didn't break any rules.

    Kermie's at breaking point 🤣

Another newly minted Sinn Fein voter just got its wings.

FG and FF will be able to hold a joint Ard fheis in the courtyard of the Merrion at this stage.

“ They were reassured by the hotel that it was within guidelines “

Now they are trying to lay the blame on the hotel . You couldn’t make this up

To think a few short days ago, we were all just wondering did Katherine Zappone even bother to submit a CV so Simon would at least have something to cover his ar*e with.

Now there's blood seeping out from under the door of cabinet meeting room, and the AG is scrambling to reframe pandemic restrictions to clean up the damage.

    You gotta love it.

Jesus all those involved in this shenanigans full of chat today after deafening silence, but very shy AG speaking is an eye opener and will raise more questions than answers , I have to say his announcement this evening about what's permitted outdoors stinks even more foul than the Debacle of this absurd debacle.

God you're a broken record. You do realise that it is far more than Sinn Féin supporters who are sick of this rubbish. This government, along with its predecessor, has stumbled from one fiasco to another. There is no accountability, no responsibility and no leadership. What's worse is that all these bloody scandals have occurred at a time of national emergency. Despite this you have cretins looking to sweep these sorry affairs under the carpet and attempting to portray legitimate public concerns as nothing more than the ravings of the opposition. Tribalism at its very worst. It has poisoned political discourse and led to a culture where nobody is held accountable. Shame on you.

It makes no difference when a GE is called.....FF, FG and the greens will just join forces again...be it a coalition again or supply and confidence agreement.

So unless an opposition party romps home with a huge majority then all the present incumbents have to do is join forces again.

We could have this lot for many more years again.

    ✔️ Zappone gone

✔️ Govt: "Nothing to see here" (With bonus AG confirmation)

✔️ Leo: "Nothing to see here"

That leaves me 3/4. All I need now is for some more surprising names to pop up on the guest list that make the opposition uncomfortable and I've got a full house.

They're all snakes lads, playing games. Away from the cameras and the soundbites they're eating meals and having pints together and laughing at the each other's jokes.

In fairness we've all known there is no science behind any of the number of people permitted re restrictions for a long time now.

the Last 18 months have damaged our nations soul

i for one blame the government 100%, it is time for a nation to heal by booting those whores in government out

    bunch of liars and cowards

And most of the people have been in that same place for months. People started relaxing in mid April. They led the politicians.

Well said, I've avoided responding to this SF nonsense, it's everywhere across boards, mother of God there blamed for everything. I'm no supporter but anyone deluded enough to think SF are to blame for this fiasco, amongst others incidentally needs head examined.

Many people are outraged at this disgraceful charade, FF, FG, Independent, Labour voters as to are actual members of all parties.

The arrogance, Down right contempt shown for the electorate by FG stalwarts is utterly breathtaking and down right shameful. I actually emailed Leo at the start of the Pandemic to express my appreciation for his leadership, the last year has proven how foolish I was, both he and Coveney have lost the run of themselves, the constant leaks, undermining and mixed messages is beyond comprehension. Leo once said we're all in this Together, he's certainly not true to his word. I'm personally disgusted and I'm no leftie.

Try to convince all you like seamus, twiddle and twirl your wee moustache too (if you have one) but this wasn't some cunning plan by those within govt circles.

They were caught with their pants down once again, they think the public are mugs, and refuse to adapt and change with the times. It's 2021, this is the age of social media, were the public get their news from alternative sources, and were unfavorable news can't be buried the way it used to

Took a while for Zappone to fall on her sword as more and more stuff emerged, don't be surprised if more follow.

Rather than some cunning plan, I think we truly are witnessing the most incompetent and bumbling hobbled together government this state has ever had to endure. Greatest parcel of swivel eyed gombeens as we have ever seen.

I'm not sure if you're trying to convince yourself or others with the above tbh.

He's constructing I nice little cunning overlords fantasy as I said earlier. Might as well try to get something out of the omnishambles. The other members of FG defence forces are insisting on trying to ignore it all or deflect from it with 'squirrel!' stuff about homopobhia and the Shinners 😁
