Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Technician Grade 1 Local Authority Interview Questions

    Hi,

I recently applied for a grade 1 technician post in a local authority and am quite nervous about the whole interview process. :( Typically what is the standard format of these "competency" based interviews? Are the panel usually trying to catch you out with anything? What sort of questions are you typically asked? I have no experience working in a local authority before. In the private sector, interviews seem a lot more informal and relaxed, from my experience most places are almost trying to convince you about their firm more than you trying to sell yourself!!

I'd appreciate any help I can get, or to be pointed in the right direction if anyone has any advice to offer. Thanks in advance!

    Hi Undertow

Have you been called yet for interview with the council? I'm in the council on the admin side rather than technical. The competency interview thing is very new in the councils so you may not have a 'proper' competency interview although they are getting better. I would have a look a the corporate plan for the council as well as the annual report. Also every month they hold the council meeting so you can go on and have a look a the sort of stuff discussed at these meetings. The chief executive report gives an overview of every single project/ function of the local authority. I would at least know how many councillors, some of the issue discussed, what the overall budget is and where they get their money - ie commercial rates/ rents/ local property tax. check out any news stories in the week(s) before the interview.

Hi skeav3105! Thanks a million for the reply! I havent been called yet. I put in the application mid-June, it clearly takes a long time to get things organised! Your advice is ver helpful, thank you. I've also been told to prepare examples for different scenarios. I really hope its not as formal as I envisage! :)
