Don't think Bora are as high on Ackermann as they were, he's been a flop for the last year and a half

Isn't Ackermann leaving as he fell out with them as well.

    I wonder is Sam watching?
I know for me the shine is gone off it and the wolf pack this year.
I'm having a 'They took our jobs' (South Park) attitude to it.
Not knowing Cav's history, and seeing the lovefest for him, it's galling.
Is he as nice/good as they say he is.

How must it be for Sam as a participant/team mate?

No hope Ackermann and Bennett will have to share the leadership this time round regardless of Pascals nationality

He'll go to Israel SN. They'll get out of the Froome deal and out their efforts into sprinting.

He's one of the best sprinters of all time and a fairly devisive figure personality wise... The comeback angle is massive here and largely responsible for the huge hype. It's not unwarranted to be fair, it's a great story... That said it's not all that enjoyable from a Sam bennett fans point of view.

Before Cav, it was the same for Sam, before Sam it was the same for Viviana, and Kittel, and Cav before. Lefevre has been a complete dick to Sam (the way things have gone though, a 90% Sam would've walked the stages Cav won), but "the wolfpack" is more than just a marketing thing - they do go all in with the best chance of winning.

Anyway, delighted to see WVA win yesterday!

Just checking up coming races this morning to see if Sam was down to start them, would have thought maybe he'd be at Wallonie this week or Burgos in a few weeks but no. Startlist for Bexelux (Bink Bank / Eneco) isn't finalized yet so maybe he'll do that one?

Randomly checking again Sam on PCS this morning and he was listed for a few of the Italian races in September, checking again now as I was going to post about those he's back to no upcoming races.

Now that DQS have two other 'less problematic' sprinters capable of winning in Cav and jakobsen we'll probably only see Sam at races neither of them can make it too... If we see him again this season at all.

Yeah, hate to say it but I'd be surprised if we see Sam race again for DQS at all again this season.

I see Sam has liked a Cycling Ireland Instagram post, but hasn't engaged with and Quickstep stuff in a long time.

Lefevre doesn't give a fook the way things went with Cav at the TDF tho and all the attention they got

    He effectively "won"

In fact, if they keep on Cav for next year's TDF it very much works in their favour interest-wise that the record was "only" tied with EM this year as the can milk it all over again next year

Sagan and Ackerman confirmed to be leaving Bora now.

They would appear to have a massive Sam-shaped hole in their squad...

Looks like it is a done deal. I'm pretty excited for Aug 1st this year

Its gonna be so stressful in his first race against DQ next year. Felt the same in the build up to his first races last year but then it was grand cause Ackermann turned out to be $h1t

Looks like I can take out my (end of season, bought at a reduced price) Bora kit out again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,086 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I wonder with Sagan gone will Sam now have to do the cringey "That's Bora" ads

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,115 ✭✭✭CrowdedHouse

I wonder what bikes will they have.

    Seven Worlds will Collide

Never thought of that. Specialized are going to follow Sagan to Total and there is no reason the can't do both but with the extra money they gave for Sagan gone Denk might get a better deal somewhere else.

A straight swap with Wilier would be cool. They do some nice looking bikes

The problem is that the one day / classics/ sprint hole in Bora is being filled with stage race riders like Hindley, Vlasov and Higuita. I'm not sure this is the best move for Sam, particularly if he's expecting a crack at GT stages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,086 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

He is in the position now I think where he can pick his team based on what's in it for him. He might have to go it alone in GTs but I'm sure he will be getting guarantees that he gets to go to them

Any news on Quickstep team for Vuelta?

They've had their team announced for a while now, Jakobsen for the sprints and I guess Knox for stages elsewhere.

He can pick his team ? do you not think he or his manager really messed up. Next season wont have lead out train, all top sprinters back again unlike this TDF , he will be 1 year older and most importantly looks like his last race was March/April ? cant see any team paying big buck for that, can you see say Man. Utd paying huge money for striker who has not played in nearly a year. and is 1 year older ? Training wont make up for not racing especially for sprinter and a lot of younger guys coming up.

are new contracts/ transfers only allowed at year end?

Rare you have a mid season transfer, Masnada from CCC to DQS comes to mind in recent times but CCC were going under so everyone was a free agent as such. Normally transfers and contracts will be negotiated through out the year and deals done but only announced after the first of August but there are always leaks a plenty before then especially around the tour.

Also teams will take on stagiaires sometimes after Aug 1st for the remainder of the season, usually young lads from lower divisions or development teams and see how they go in minor races for the last 3 months or so of the season.

Contracts usually run to year end though, I remember last year some being pictured in new team kit prior to deals being announced.

On the plus side... It's going to be all the sweeter when Sam sticks it to DQS repeatedly next season.
