Speech difficulties post treatment

    Hi guys, I hope this is the right place for this, and any advice would be welcome.

    My mother underwent brain surgery and radio therapy earlier this year, the radio therapy was directed to an area close to her speech centre and she's having problems talking now, she's very lucid, aware of all that's going on and understands just fine when we talk to her but struggles at times to speak - her words can be mixed up etc.

    The hospital have provided some help but she was hoping for some more intensive speech therapy, we would be happy to go private if there's someone who could help, she's in the Meath area but will travel, does anyone know of a therapist who might be able to help her?

    my cousin attended a speech therapist about for about 7 or 8 appointments I can’t recall exactly but the upshot was the therapist/con artist despite a positive hospital prognosis regarding recovery and realizing good speech again... deciding to print off home exercises for them and discharge them...

    i enquired as to how the fuçk they would be able to hear improvements, understand and identify what aspects of speech would still need effort and need to be worked on...

    she told my cousin that she should record herself and listen back ask me for feedback ... ie. become her own speech therapist...

    they just wanted to make a token effort and get their next HSE cheque in, grim.

    It's surprisingly difficult to find any real therapists for work like this, the majority are only for children and stammer (very important too) but for brain injury/surgical patients there doesn't seem to be much outside of the hospital support itself.

    Hi, there's a website for private SLTs. It's: isti.ie. I hope this is allowed by the mods. It's a website where you can search private SLTs by county and specialism. I hope that helps!
