Mechanic that will call out for car that won't start.

Out here in Corbally, car won't start. Sounded like battery but wouldn't start even with an attempt at a jumpstart.

Can anybody suggest a mechanic to call out to have a look at it?

Or is there a better way to go about things?

Check your insurance. You possibly have breakdown cover.

More than half full.

First time the car coughed a little as the engine tried to turn over, but since then, just the dreaded clicking sound, with flickering display screen.

Battery sounds dead. If its a manual and you have a few bodies you can bump start it. Push it in 2nd gear with the clutch down, when you get moving drop the clutch and give some throttle. The car should start, let it run for at least 40 minutes. You'll still need to get the battery checked.

Is it a diesel? Get a different set of jump leads, petrol station shite leads will do feck all to get you going these days.

If you can get a voltmeter check the battery voltage. It should be above 12.5. if it below 11 battery us in trouble. If it is showing 12.5 start car with voltmeter accross terminals if battery voltage collapses stays below 10 you could still have a better problem.

However I suspect you have a starter problem from the. clicking noise. If you know where the start is tap it few times with a hammer it may start. However if it's the starter you need to get it repaired.

What car do you have?

Last summer my brother-in-law's Citroen picasso wouldn't start on two separate occasions, we tried a portable and a mains powered jump starter. Also tried jump leads, no luck.

The only thing that worked was a cheap mains battery charger for about 30mins to get enough charge into the battery.

A new battery sorted out the problem.

A thing he noticed was eco stop/start hadn't worked for some time before, but returned with the new battery.

Does the car's computer check the battery condition to ensure sufficient voltage before attempting a start and maybe disable something like stop/start if the battery condition isn't good.

Got the battery out (which is a real pain in a C4), fully charged with a mains charger, got it back in and it started no problem. I need to work out if the battery is just old, or of there is something draining the battery (which would drain any new battery as well).

My BIL's Citroen is 2014, original battery, a lot of Dublin city driving so a lot of stop/starts on it. These stop/start batteries are quite pricey.

Dont rule out your alternator- battery may be fine.
