Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

For me it's Jimmy Carr's tax scandal. Seems weird that he thought he'd get away with it. What's yours?

Hm - duplicate post. Welcome to the new boards I guess!

Edit - Hm - not a duplicate post. I've no idea what's going on...

Seems weird that he pulled out of the deal. All he did was make use of a “loophole” that lots of other high net worth individuals were using.

Wasn’t Cameron implicated in some dodgy “dealings”, himself, not too long ago? And he was one of the main finger pointers at Carr.

You think the weirdest scandal a celebrity has been involved in was the one where Jimmy Carr’s asset management company exploited a legal tax loophole?

it has to be Michael Barrymore and the body found in his swimming pool ... a tragic case for the victim (Stuart Lubbock) and his family and totally inexplicable, it would seem. Even after many years of investigation.

I don't know how the family cope with not knowing what happened in a house that was full of party people at the time.

    This one was memorable:

Brazilian football star Ronaldo has been caught up in a sex scandal with three cross-dressing prostitutes.

Having dropped off his girlfriend at her house in Rio de Janeiro on Monday night, the 2002 World Cup winner picked up three prostitutes.

When they all booked into a motel, the AC Milan striker discovered that the prostitutes were in fact men.

According to Rio police, he alleges that the transvestites then tried to extort money from him.

The Armie Hammer cannibalism stuff was just next level compared to all the other scandals.

The Cruiser being close to the top of the pyramid in an international brainwashing cult is pretty weird - but he's probably the biggest movie star of the past few decades, so it gets ignored. I mean, I'll definitely be going to see Top Gun 2 and everything, but still...

    The Jussie Smollet debacle.

Though money/career advancement is to be made from grifting.

the Armie Hammer disgusting shitfest wins out though but even that's 'normal' compared to Watkins.

Earliest, rather than weirdest : Jeremy Thorpe, then leader of the UK Liberal party, real establishment figure, married, one child, being tried for conspiracy to murder the young man who had been his lover, at a time when homosexual acts were still illegal in law. Scott's dog was shot during one murder attempt.

I remember it being on the news, at a time when being gay was something laughed at in sitcoms and comedy shows.

It was really well covered in A Very British Scandal, starring Hugh Grant, directed by Stephen Frears (of the Snapper and the Van).

The mysterious death of the film-maker Tom Ince on board the mega-rich and powerful newspaper magnate W.R. Hearst’s yacht while at sea. He was actually said to have died a few days later in the hospital, ostensibly from health complications, but no one ever believed that. The story is that the young and cocky Charlie Chaplin had been romancing Hearst’s mistress Marion Davies, and so on a moonless yachting evening, a case of mistaken identity put a bullet into Ince’s head instead of Chaplin’s, with everything being hushed up thereafter. A very interesting case, they made a film about it that I have to get around to seeing, ‘The Cat’s Meow’.

Talking of yachts... Natalie Wood of course. Who knows what really happened there.

Isabelle Adjani had a rumour following her in the late eighties that she had AIDS. More idiocy than scandal.

Mentioning Adjani reminds me that Day-Lewis dumped her through fax, the poor woman. And Matt Damon went one better and broke up with Minnie Driver while on a chat-show. But I’m sceptical of that last one as it wasn’t to be found on YouTube when I went looking. Surely, it would be there?

Clark Gable fathered one of Loretta Young’s kids, Orson Welles fathered one of Geraldine Fitzgerald’s. Hollywood open secrets.

Marlon Brando really put it about with a vengeance. A Mick, or a Rod, of his day.

Polanski and Manson, Tate and Geimer. Horrible stuff all round.

Ryan O’Neal is said to have a temper. We’ll say no more.

Sean Penn, ditto. Lately, Ellen DeGeneres. And a couple other US showhosts, along with Weinstein, Spacey and all that jazz.

Billy Crudup ran off with Claire Danes while his girlfriend was 8 months pregnant. Which is probably even worse than Tom Brady running off with Gisele Buendchen when his girlfriend was 2 months pregnant. Not great, in any case.

Law cheated on Frost with Miller, then he cheated on Miller with his kids’ nanny, meanwhile Miller cheated on him with Craig, whereupon Law and Craig had a good old natter about it all on the blower, which was all duly recorded by Piers Morgan and got a good airing in court as well. Then Miller had the wise idea to bring some of all this excitement stateside as well, so chose the married father of four Balthasar Getty to have an affair with, next. And so on and so forth.

More recently, Ewan McGregor thanking both his wife and his mistress for their unwavering support in his Award-acceptance speech last year. The wife wasn’t one bit impressed!

Was there a DNA test done to see if Ronan Farrow is Frank Sinatra's son? He doesn't look anything like Woody Allen thankfully. Woody marrying his step daughter was so weird too. Hollywood is full of secrets.

No, I don’t think so. Sinatra was already long dead by the time Farrow came out with this nugget, and his family dismissed it out of hand, so that was that I think. But the guy does look much more like Sinatra than like Allen, it has to be said. The ole blue eyes.

Yeah, Allen and Farrow and the whole clusterfcuk with several of her adopted kids... the stories and the he said-she said are still being rehashed all these years later. One of the biggest scandals of the nineties, along with Lewinski’s famous blue dress, of course, and I forget all about it! Good call :D

In 1940, actress Carole Lombard was approached by her press agent with a plan to fake her death for publicity. The idea is that her plane would go down, she'd be reported dead, then twelve hours later she'd walk out of the forest with a shocking story. According to reports such as this, she loved the idea and they started planning for the "event", but didn't go through with it due to cost.

In January 1942, Carole Lombard was aboard a TWA flight that crashed in to a mountain near Las Vegas, killing all 22 people on board.

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.

When the prosecution offered to outline the facts of the case, the trial judge said this was not necessary and the entire proceedings were over in an estimated seven minutes.

Nothing about that case made sense.
