Painting cast iron fireplace

I have a black cast iron fireplace in our living room. The room is north facing and quite dark. I'm thinking of painting the fireplace white, has anyone done this? Opinions welcome please

Fine, just make sure you use a suitable heat resistant paint, such are made for painting wood burning stoves.
