I find the lyrics to be less "rule Britannia" and more utterly deluded as to how well the UK integrates cultural diversity.

"We celebrate our differences with love in our hearts"

Must be some other country whose Home Secretary is criticizing footballers for protesting racism then.

F me. Cricket world test champions. I’m trying to think of an Irish equivalent where you have been crap since you can remember (decent at times at one day) then suddenly you’re champions.

Maybe if the Irish soccer team won something.

Anyway happy days for this kiwi!

Mentioned earlier in this thread that this is probably the first time in history that the NZ cricket team is a better team than the NZ rugby team!

Pretty sure the Irish cricket team is also better than the NZ rugby team.... at cricket.

Who are these mouth breathing window lickers you speak of Jaco? All 14 million Tory voters?

I can't say I've heard much about this song. Although I did see "Nazi Germany" trending on Twitter yesterday and it appears the hysterical left are claiming it is more evidence that the UK is going the way of Nazi Germany. Perhaps Venjur shares this concern.

All of it is nonsense...the song and the reaction. There are much more important things to worry about such as who will partner Iain Henderson in the Ireland second row at the 2023 WC.

On one hand it most definitely is nonsense. But it is also part of a somewhat troubling trend of nationalism for the sake of it that is becoming endemic in the UK. They have a Conservative MP pushing for funding to send a portrait of the queen out to every household. They are pushing kids to sing "patriotic" songs in school. Its a little unsettling.

Another copy-paste from the fascism playbook was Home Secretary Patel accompanying cops and bringing a film crew along to document her on site to oversee recent police raids in London. Bad enough that her presence and security needs were undoubtedly a nuisance to the forces involved, but I saw things like this all the time on Italian News when I lived there, and the "post-Duce" vibes definitely resonated.

Well I think that MP has said that if anyone wants a portrait they should get it for free, which isnt really the same as pushing for every home to get one. Again its a total waste of money, but I dont think her idea is to force it on anyone?

I don't think you have to be 'hysterical' or 'left' to see a resemblance to North Korea and Nazi Germany.
The parallels are frightening to 1930s Germany and the way Hitler and Nazism changed society. Media and the Law will be next. (Newspapers dominated by foreign right wing owners. Channel 4 up for grabs. BBC becoming Pravda.)
    It's happening.

Whatever about anything else I can't look at the current crop of Tories (and republicans in the states) with anything other than complete contempt because of the brazen rampant corruption, and the total and complete disregard with which the upper echelons of the party treat basic decency and the truth. I really find it frightening that that seems to matter so little such a huge portion of the electorates.

I'm not even going to respond to this, I like posting about rugby on this MB and don't want to fall out with people, but comparing the UK to Nazi Germany is a bit much for me and I'll leave it there

I talked about a resemblance. I was talking about History. There is a wonderful historical documentary on the rise of Hitler and Nazism. It was shown on BBC. It may be on the I player or YouTube. The parallels are there for all to see.

This cracks me up. A married cabinet minister is pictured snogging one of his staff - and he's apologising for breach of social distancing.

Your first comment on this matter labelled people who opposed your view "hysterical", and when you were rather respectfully challenged on this, you threaten fallings out?

Also, it's quite clear the antipathy here is with the current Tory regime, and not the UK. Heck, the loudest critic is Jaco.

He broke the law that he was responsible for enacting and he repeatedly called on people to show personal responsibility over it. People are rightfully angry over it.

Mind you, not sure why there isn't more focus on him seemingly not following recruitment guidelines and giving a job to his mistress

I don't think the UK is about to erupt into fascism nor do I think this 'song' is going to grow or foster extremism. It's cringeworthy and personally if the shoe were on the other foot I'd find the government led endeavour embarrassing for the most part. The larger concern is this being another example of a hard right leaning voting public drifting to aggressive nationalism and flag waving nonsense in support of a government who have wrought significant damage on the overall wellbeing of an entire nation.

I appreciate this was written in part by students, but the forced nationalism is not a good look no matter how you spin it. It looks much worse when you consider the pathetic morons in charge of government, and their recent actions - who are the very ones pushing this silliness.

It's not really bad form to sleep with one of your staff is it?

Mate of mine got sacked after sleeping with someone at work.
    Lovely lad. Terrible vet.

Really enjoyed the first season of this. Is Z Nation any good? Black summer is made by the same people right?

Black summer is more like the walking dead. Z nation is more cartoonish and far funnier. More like a piss take of the whole genre.

I couldn't get into Z Nation, it's nothing like Black Summer.

Black Summer and Walking dead aren't really all that similar albeit both play it relatively straight.

Black Summer is one part Dawn of the Dead (2004 remake) one part 28 days later. It's a much better show than Walking dead, less meandering storylines, better written and much better paced.

    The Spain own goal

It’d be a bad error at an U8 game.
