Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What's the story with front wing tests?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,903 ✭✭✭Joeface

Only under Review isn't it .didn't think they had a updated test yet .

So it's Styrian first, Austrian second?

The rain would be great. Even if it just washes the track before the race it would be a good addition. The rain in France , which washed the track, probably played a big part in the unexpected tyre wear in the race.

Kubica is getting a spin in the Alfa instead of Kimi in FP1

... and managed to spin at the first corner.

Nice track for sure. I like the two high speed, high braking parts.

I'm going to watch a little Sunday if I can.

Honda looking strong - what a shame they are pulling out at the end of the year.

Alonso / Apline going well again in FP1.

Interesting session. Wonder if honda are going to reconsider leaving the sport if they win the two championships this year?.

They might regret pulling out, but i really doubt they can change their mind at this point.

Agree, decisions like this take time and won't be made overnight. At least this time they could go out on top unlike when they had a F1 team back in 2008, later inherited by Braun in 2009. Funnily enough it then became Mercedes.... :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,213 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

I was just thinking about Brawn, hence the question. I hope they at least win on the way out and the engine doesnt fall off in 2022 like "mecachrome" did after renault left after winning the WDC/CC in 1995-1997.

I read one option is that the Honda engine team basically becomes the Red Bull Powertrain team, and Red Bull have their own engines.

That's presumably a big part of it. Mpst of those Honda staff are out of a job and they already know how the engine works, where its weak, where it can improve. Honda might have offered some of them jobs in other areas and other F1 teams will surely be interested in some of the Honda people so I'm sure it wouldn't work out exactly like that. But I'm sure the bulk of the staff will be existing Honda people.

I think they were expecting rain this session , lot of long run stuff at the start then Aston did one run of qual sims and everyone joined in then back to long runs.

Bottas spun it in the pits as well when pulling out .

Gasly didn't run at all , Honda spotted an issue with his Power unit spent the session investigating what it was

Other than that Redbull (Max) looks well clear

The Alpine branding is starting to make sense seeing their pace now that they've arrived at the Alps.

If he put himself in the same place mid race, what would happen?

Would he chance a spin himself which would I'm assuming would then result in some sort of penalty

Imagine if he blocked Max doing this during the race, the scenes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,870 ✭✭✭✭klose

Will bottas pick up some sort of a penalty for that spin?

They're saying he was laying down rubber to use for the rest of the weekend. So It would be even less likely to happen in the race. Seemed to lose it on the painted tarmac. Wonder if it's just one of those 1 in a million events or if there's a reason for it.

Wonder if the new rules about tyre blankets ****ed Mercedes. Would be funny if yet another thing expected/designed (publicly at least) to hurt Red Bull ****ed the Mercs again.

Knowing his luck wouldn't be surprised if he got pole today.

Been a long time since Hamilton has been over 2/1 to win a GP.

He's 11/5 at the moment. Max the favourite at evens.

Lewis 21/10 for pole, Max odds on favourite at 3/4.

I'd love something to happen like the backmarkers/mid-tier teams all go out early and start their fastest laps, then go tobann, just as the Mercs Red Bulls etc come out for their outlap it pisses out of the heavens.

Mercs and Red Bulls are out in Q1.

Will never happen but still; would be great craic

Just peeking at the weather radar and Forecast - nothing at the moment but the forecast shows a build up of potential precipitation locally towards the end of the Qualy session. Things could get interesting, particularly if there's any red flags delaying things.

The W Series race after Qualy could end up being a wet race.

I wonder would Bottas have done that had there been people out in the pit in front, could have been nasty that.

As it is that is a penalty for the whole team really with how important it has been to have two cars in the mix at the front.

Verstappen and Hamilton neck and neck in FP3, should be a tight race. I hope there's a bit of rain!

The end of Q1 could be very interesting because we might get an unexpected driver into Q2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,338 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Ah Latifi was unlucky after a great lap.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Ocon out and Ricciardo squeaking through into Q2 by the slimmest of margins. That got a bit crazy at the end

  • Registered Users Posts: 340 ✭✭Zookey123

I'd say Latifi will be the happiest driver on the grid when Russell finally gets that Mercedes seat.

Riccardo also set a purple first sector, thought he'd be further up, Russell did well to jump up the times with his last lap, thought he might have trouble with traffic near the end of the lap but obviously not

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,338 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

The gap between many of the drivers is so little all of the top drivers can’t make a mistake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,772 ✭✭✭SureYWouldntYa

Ricciardo should be very disappointed with 13th

He should be at the stage where he's getting used to the car, it's not like this is a new track for him to be getting used to either like some of the ones earlier in the year

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Russell was very close to Q3, Vettel Sainz and Ricciardo out. Not a good day for Danny Ric, miles behind Norris who is flying around here
