How do you back it up without precedent?

Do you honestly believe that opening against public health advice and the health act (so illegally) wouldn't void your insurance?

Feel free to show your workings.

OK you are right, well done, you won.

If somebody slips in a pub which was open illegally then public liability is void.

Like that's why nobody ever gets after hours in a pub in Ireland as its illegal and insurance is void.

You'll be able to produce evidence of someone suing and winning after injuring themselves in a lock in so?

    Look I agree with you.

Its why there were no house parties during restrictions either, as the house owners knew that they did not have public liability cover during the restrictions as there is no insurance cover when you do something illegal.

Can't see it, NPHET will say on Wednesday that they recommend postponing for 2/3 weeks. Martin will announce on Thursday they're taking the advice and will revisit in 3 weeks time. At which stage because of falling vaccine supplies and Delta numbers still high there will be another delay.
After that there will probably be yet another variant so lockdown gets extended again. Then we're back into schools reopening again so everything gets put on hold again.

I dont think they can not ease restrictions as numbers currently are, i mean credibility is done, completely done if thats the case, the "we are following the data and numbers argument is done" if they do and it will be a case of "restrictions will be decided on the level of concern Tony has"

I mean if the delay it 3 weeks you would have a farcical situation where ye could possibly fly to Paris in the morning, have a meal indoors and a few drinks and fly home that night but cant go in to the restaurant down the road.

Personally ill be shocked if they dont proceed with the easing of restrictions.

If staff are called in for stocktake and a deep clean this week and the reopening is delayed, the outcomes are

1/ sign off pup and you can't sign back on
2/ don't sign off and work (technically welfare fraud)
3/ work cash in hand (tax evasion)
    4/ work for free.

The term piss up in a brewery comes to mind (or outside a brewery as the case may be)

Best stat ever, there is more members of NPHET than people in hospital with Covid.

The number of people in hospital dropped by 11 in 24 hours or 23.4%

That's the stat I like seeing personally but each to their own :)

    And

5/ After handing in notice elsewhere to return to their original job they could now end up with no job, and no PUP.

Absolutely no excuse for this, Holohan said the below on May 21st.

“For the most part, the sky is mostly blue but with a black cloud on the horizon which is the Indian variant,” Dr Holohan said.

5 weeks later and there is no spike or surge worth talking about, across any metric.

I still think we're opening up on the 5th, could see a lot of pubs that don't have a dozen staff handy holding off till the weekend though.

So whats this all about then?

Quoting the Portuguese Prime Minister, Mr Martin said the experience of the Delta variant there was not accompanied by a rise in hospitalisation and critical care.

Hopefully its telling us that they are keeping an eye on delta, but not overreacting to it

    Seems proportionate alright

36 in hospital. 22 players on the pitch in a soccer match.

    About as relevant.

The ÉAG, Nphets advisory committee has 32 members, after that NIAC have about 22.

It's like having 22 players on a pitch and 41 managers.

Same for the ÉAG and NIAC.

270,000 confirmed cases in Ireland, and only 22 members of NPHET?

    It’s ridiculous Ted.

These experts and members of NPHET will be smirking when there wishes come through and the government accept the recommendations to postpone the reopening of indoor pubs

IF we are the most suppressed nation in Europe during the summer, we will be the most suppressed this winter.

Anyone who's livelihood has been negatively affected by the actions of our Government needs to assume the worst at this stage.

It's too easy for our Health Bureaucrats to impose harsh restrictions...media and politicians are useless to us!

I think I said it in my very first post in this thread a year and a half ago. This is not and never has been about saving lives or a pandemic public health or anything else they try to claim. It’s been about saving the HSE from ever having to be accountable or responsible for ANYTHING they ever do. This government is terrified of us ever finding out just how bad the health service really is in this country and I’d say they cannot ****ing believe they’ve had so much compliance from their subjects. All policed of course by fanatics who will **** anybody over to get ahead. There can’t possibly be anyone left in this country that doesn’t realize this. Can there?

    I think you are correct.

If we look at Europe v The US you see the impact health bureaucrats have on policy decisions at state level.

The US does not have State Health Bureaucracies (apart from NY I think) like European States do....most of the US have dropped restrictions or most of them in every State....a lot of States only imposed very limited restrictions going against the advice of the Federal Government.

We have one of the most dysfunctional Health Bureaucracy in Europe in my opinion.

We have put more people out of work to save our health system than any nation that I can find.

By a cruel set of political circumstances we also have weak political parties who are at their weakest in their history.

By another set of cruel circumstances our media standards, which were never as high as a lot of people seem to think, are now in the gutter.

It doesn't help either that as a people, we have a tendency to be subservient, too trusting of authority.

Has there been any real increase in our hospital capacity, icu capacity or health care worker count since last March? Does anyone realy think our hospitals won't be overwhelmed this winter, covid or not?

Well ok. But we seem to have achieved that regardless....

But yes I agree our Health Service was no great Shakes pre covid. But fm they've managed to pull out a lot of stops this time. It will be interesting to see if lessons have been learned and if changes will be made in the long run.

Thing is health services right across Europe including our own are to various degrees badly managed and poorly run. So that's not something we didn't know tbf.

If our indoor pubs are to remain closed during the summer but travel opens up on the 29th of July you can fly to another country for an indoor pint. Or just go up north so what's the point?

You seem to think the main role of NPHET is to close pubs and reduce drinking

Some of there members are extremely anti Alcohol and really want to change the culture and adopt the European model

They rate Alcohol related issues as a cause of a lot of hospital overcrowding and then all the bad health benefits it has

No wonder you're frustrated if you've convinced yourself our covid response is based on some anti-drinking conspiracy theory.

Then why are we the only country with indoor pubs closed with other countries having similar vaccination levels as us with them open ?
