Needs a bit of updating but my god this is just stunning. It has it's own castle on the grounds. And it's right out the road from my mam's house. I remember cycling past this house on my bike when I was a kid and it always looked so magical and secret coz you can only see the gates from the road.

If I retired in my 50s with a fvckload of money, that's exactly the kind of thing I'd buy. Enough projects to keep you going for years, and the ongoing maintenance would mean you'd always have a couple of hours of jobs to get done in the morning.

Looking at it right now though I'm think it'd be nice for a bit of a weekend away with one or two other families, but otherwise a complete money pit.

It seems to have had a lot of the important work like heating and electrics already done. the FTTP is nice as well.

And as a bonus, although the postal address is Tipperary, you'd actually be living in Offaly.

    https://www.google.com/maps/place/Old+Castle+House,+Dungar,+Roscrea,+Co.+Offaly/@52.9718436,-7.7860994,305m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x485cfb483150b6d9:0x3585203a9632534d!8m2!3d52.9717322!4d-7.7853913

First thing I'd get if I bought that place would be a robo-mower or a few sheep.

That house makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside to look at it. Looking past the handful of areas that need obvious work, there's very little I'd change. I don't like the couches and would update the wooden toilet seat. But that's about it.

Lovely house, anywhere near civilisation and that house fetches many multiples of that asking price.

not really that far from civilisation. 1.5 miles from roscrea. A 20 minute drive from Birr.

Just the carpet on the stairs, landing and in the bedrooms, and some changes of paint colour for me. As said above a few sheep fenced in will take care of a lot of the garden and just concentrate then on a small area around the house.

    I LOVE that house.

Actually I hope someone with more money than taste doesn't buy it and pimp it up.

I resent you saying that Roscrea isn't the centre of civilisation. We have a swimming pool now you know!

    (very true though :p)

True, as soon as they come into the world they're looking to get out of it.
If they could, they'd die twice.

Can anyone spot me €500,000. Would be willing to pay back in a couple of years.

How much of that is scripted and how much of it is real? I've watched a couple of short clips on Youtube and it looks totally scripted. But very obviously so. Like Top Gear as it was slowly losing its polish.

Watched it in 1 go last weekend. Obviously, there is some scripting involved but all by all, it is a great watch. Some great characters involved as well.

Every second of it is scripted.

If you want to see some non-scripted UK farming from UK motor journalist, watch Harry's Farm rather than that knobhead Clarkson.

I watch 'One Man and His Dog' on Youtube at times to relax. Or any of the woodturning, or restoration videos. As long as they are just subtitled and don't have a hyperactive 'presenter' I don't mind.

I'm a sucker for any renovation show on YT. Handyman renovating 1920's house in England? Yes please! Swedish teenager hand building a log cabin using traditional building methods in the wilderness? OMG Yes. Couple building a cabin high in the Utah mountains/couple renovating a cabin at a Canadian lake? I'm in. Old episodes of Restoration Home? My absolute favourite.

That's sad to see, someone had a very poor quality of life living there.

I'd hate to empty it though, and can only imagine the smell!

Oh that's horrendous, such a sad state to live in. I'm amazed the estate agent even bothered putting interior pictures in the ad

You might find a few treasures hidden there but I'd feel the same as you. Not worth it!

Looks like the neighbours or council painted the outside & laminated photo of curtain/flower vase to the windows to stop you looking at the mess inside. Half the window & surrround boarded up too.
